When the time comes to bring my NA home from school for the winter months I have some DIY projects I’d like to do. I want to try and make headlight eyelids with NACA ducts, turn signal air intakes, and new door cards. I’ll put pull straps on the door cards instead of handles that actually open the door. I’ll start with junkyard pieces so I don’t ruin the original parts just in case. If I mess up or it looks like crap I’ll just put the original parts back on. Sure you can just buy all these things but I’d much rather create my own different pieces.

NACA Ducts in the headlights sounds like an electrical disaster waiting to happen.

From what I’ve researched on the forums no one has reported problems. And its not really different from driving with the lights up in the rain.

What are you cutting away to make them actually functional?

Part of the metal eyelid that you can’t see from this angle. There is space between it and the headlight for the duct to fit and funnel air into the engine bay.

Yes Yes I do.
Today I attempted to make a forge to melt aluminum and cast some things. I always wanted to try casting and want to make a nardi evolution shift knob out of aluminum instead of my stock wood one.
I haven’t done much to my m edition except door cards retro window switches coil overs sway bars brake lines and maintenance crap. I am currently doing bodywork to be able to get it painted soon. I have a new top waiting for when its painted. I want new leather on the seats and new carpet. I want it to be stockish but I would like to louver the hood.
I think some kind of setting for the stock headlights to have them raise 1/2 way would be cool
Today started some rust repair on the 54 crestline need to fab drip rails and inner fender housing patches.

I’d like to do the retro switches as well. I’m going to get my seats recovered professionally. I’d never do that right. I plan on adding a gauge above the radio for voltage, water and oil temp.

There’s been some DIY in the ongoing Silverado series, in which I’ve bought a 310K mile (as of now) Chevrolet Silverado Duramax 4x4 and have been redoing all of the things wrong with it, including things like weld a patch for the pickup box with RamblinRover .

Man I’m still disappointed that the Speed 12 didn’t show up at Goodwood this year.

Yes? Not sure if it counts as DIY for me though. But I always did any work I could before I was a “professional”. Most recent project, helped a friend install a new rebuilt engine in his range rover classic and get it fine tuned.

I also would like functioning gauges especially coolant gauge. i looked into using a scangauge that plugs into the OBD port but I dont know if it is accurate or not.

Wow that’s interesting, never seen something like that. Perhaps some members on miata.net would know. Another thing I wanted to do with my car is install a S2000 start button.

Some quick research seems to show you could get relatively the same thing with a Bluetooth obd2 reader and an app on your phone. And it would cost much less. My car is a 94’ so I don’t know if it has obd2.

yeah but I just wanted something more permanent and liked the compact boring looking square of the scan gauge also many gauges in one unit.

Only for the last, oh, 30 years or so. I DIY just about everything.
And all those sound fine, but really what you need is more V8 power. Get on it.
