Assume the Jalopnik crew is going to do a Top Gear-like challenge. In Europe. They each get a tiny budget. What cars will they pick? I’ve got a few suggestions:

Torch: a Kei(ish) car or a Fiat Multipla. Example 1: a ratty !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Kinja'd!!!

Raphael Orlove: A !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . This crappy one leaves a little bit of money to modify it into a baya.

Kinja'd!!!

Matt Hardigree: Ford Sierra (manual/diesel/wagon), as it’s the origin of the Merkur XR4TI. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! isn’t a diesel, but it is a former hearse and it’s €999. Close enough.

Kinja'd!!!

Ray Wert in something hot with exhaust pipes of the appropriate diameter. As I’m not familiar with that diameter I’ll add not !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! but !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! suggestions.

Maté in his Lada. He’s already’s got that one, and it’s on the appropriate continent.

DeMuro in !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that’s on the wrong continent. PLEASE TAKE IT BACK WITH YOU!

Andrew Collins: ‘Volkswagen Caddy’ Skoda !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! truck.

Kinja'd!!!

Stef in an early !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with System Porsche engine.

Michael Ballaban. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Cat Callahan: A modified !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . With red seats.

Kinja'd!!!

Last but not least: Patrick George. He wants Baja, he gets Baja. In a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

I’m sure you can come up with better suggestions!

I’d say most of these are pretty much spot on, but I have a feeling Torch would go for a Volkswagen or super obscure kit car, and I can see orlove in something old and unexpected; a fiat perhaps? Other than that, I’d say it’s about right; no obvious or ‘easy’ choices

I’m not sure if these are better but here you go:

Torch: Fiat 126

Orlove: 70’s - late 60’s Beetle

DeMuro: Citroen 2CV (or CX) he plans to import after the challenger hoping to get lots of clicks.

Kat: 90’s 5-door hatch or Aerodeck Civic VTi because Europe only (somewhat) sporty Honda.

Stef: Porsche 924 because Stef

Andrew: 2-door Opel Frontera
