This probably won’t work but my grand parents have a house in Quebec. Could I import a 15 year old car and just title it there and run it with Quebec plates here in North Carolina?

They probably want a Canadian license to register and I’m sure US customs would love me. Not to mention insurance.

Why would you want to do that, haha?

I’m sure you could. I don’t know if it’s legal, though.

If it is legal you can shave off 10 years from the 25 year import rule in the U.S, that means you can get access to a lot of cars we crave a decade sooner.

I suggest checking with the NC DMV with how long you’re allowed to stay with a Canadian-registered car before you have to register it locally.

Make up some story about them staying with you for a while with their car and you just want to know the rules.

Not sure about NC law but I know tons of folks who do that with Mexican plates/cars here in NM.

They’re US citizens too they just have a small vacation home up there. Another hurdle would be going up for inspections.

Don’t you have to have legal residence in a state/province to register a car there? I don’t think a vacation home counts.
