that’s a very narrow camera if that’s what it holds (the bit in front of the 6)

I presume they all have the same mandated cameras, so that could be off the shelf if nothing else is

since even the drivers underwear are special, it might be what ever the driver ate or drank before the race, or maybe what ever deoderant they put on this morning

Aren’t F1 cars required to run on pump gas?

I don’t think he meant the camera itself, but rather the stream to the central FOM thingy that broadcasts images. It probably streams telemetry and radio too!

Not as far as I know. Just today sky mentioned that Ferrari has resigned a contract with Shell and that the development of the fuel during this season meant a 40 bhp boost.

It’s probably most likely a part of the car that is required to be one and the same on all of the cars, such as something regarding to radio or anything required to be on all of the cars by regulations. I imagine the pedals are probably the cheapest part of the car maybe? But even then those might be specially designed for the foot of the drivers.

The one in the front of the 6 is an air data probe. Kind of like the pitot tubes planes use. The blade directly in front of the driver is part of the roll over protection.

I’d bet they don’t get specially made capacitors, resistors and inductors for the electronics. High grade, yes, but COTS. Probably quite a few off-the-shelf chips in there too. Even by F1 standards, custom chips could get expensive.

Very good point, never stopped to think about that!

The cameras are provided and installed by FOM. Not all cars have them installed, but the cars are required to have mounting points for them. Cars that aren’t carrying cameras have dummies installed so there’s no weight advantage.
