I always listen to the police scanner if I’m up late on the weekend (best free entertainment in the world).

Best call tonight so far: someone stole one of those motorized cart pushers and a giant line of carts from a Lowes and was just trucking down the middle of a major road a half mile away from the store.

Kinja'd!!!

Wonder what his plan was.

One of the best comedy twitter feeds I follow is just some local person (or people) who tweets the shit they hear on the police scanner. I used to have the police scanner app, I should download it again.

Yep, I still have my scanner but I’ve switched to using an app anyway...more convenient.

Right now the best continuing story I’m waiting for resolution on is the Tinder bandit. Like clockwork every Friday and Saturday night there’s a call just after 0030 for some dude being robbed at gunpoint by some dude who was pretending to be a chick on Tinder.

Why people would meet someone they’ve never met in a nonpublic place after midnight is beyond me, but there’s apparently a ton of horny dudes who disagree.

I worked in a grocery store in high school that also hired a couple of special needs baggers on a state program (the company got reimbursed for a portion, maybe all? of their salary). One of those guys was sent out to the parking lot to get carts, and wound up pushing them all the way across a busy road to the gas station across the street. The station owner called our manager to report that a bunch of our carts were by his pumps and demanded that we remove them immediately.

Yes I love listening to police scanners, but be careful posting about it, it’s legal to listen, but illegal to benefit or pass on the information you gain from listening to the scanner. I'm sure in actionable information that does not mention identifiable persons is probably fine.

Funniest thing I ever heard was a dispatcher radioed to a Police officer that his mother brought his lunch by the station but she wants him to call home when he has a free moment. Suddenly my scanner broke into all kinds of teasing radio messages about the police officers ‘mommy’ wanting him to check in. Eventually someone got on the radio and told the officers to stop with the jokes it was in appropriate use of their radios. Outside of a comedy routine I don’t think I have laughed so hard.

The more interesting one was a call for an officer to check a silent alarm at a bank. The officer radioed in later that the night janitor had set off the alarm and was unable to turn it off. Later the officer radioed in that the alarm company was unable to assist him in disabling the silent alarm, and to ignore alarms from the bank until the alarm company fixes the issue in the morning. Ohhh, why did I have to be born an honest person.

Years ago a friend of mine was working loss protection at a K-Mart, when someone took off on one of their electric scooters. The cops found a drunken college student driving it in the middle of a busy 6-lane road, wearing nothing but boxer shorts.

He was hauled off to the drunk tank to sober up, but my friend declined to press charges.
