Kinja'd!!!

I recently started working in defense. As someone who has no military background, it’s sometimes kind of a surreal work environment. The latest xkcd comic cracked me up because this is one of those things I keep hearing and it annoys me a bit. When you hear people who are supposed to be in charge of protecting the country say things like “One of the areas we’re really tracking is cyber,” or “We’re ramping up our efforts in cyber,” using it not just as a prefix but as a regular word, it’s a little comical to me. Kind of reminds me of the time I tried to explain how the Internet works to my grandmother.

xkcd is always on point. I work in engineering and people at my job routinely say “Equipments” to mean the plural of equipment. All I can think of is this scene.

I know how you feel. My parents keep saying “can you have a look on your internet for me?”, some people and some environments just can’t move on unless there is a memo or something.

One of my favourite mistakes of this sort: “Our internet does not work!”

Like it’s a water dispenser or something. :/

Or how looking at a webpage doesn’t mean your logged into your account, it merely means your looking at a general page and you have to click ‘login’ and then put your details in and if it’s correct, you’ll then be logged in to look at your account details (that’s 20 minutes of my life I’ll never get back).

The funniest was a friend’s mum telling her off for using her sister’s computer, “Becky you’ll ring up a large telephone bill for you and your sister using her computer all the time to send pictures back and forward to!”, “no I won’t mum, Bluetooth doesn’t work that way”. After an argument I was trying my hardest not to laugh visibly to, I then had to explain what Bluetooth was and how it’s a wireless connection and so on and on.

It is hard trying to mix in with other crowds who either have their own jargon or you have yours.

I clean a lot of friends cars and trying to talk about what I’ve done and then having to explain what fallout removers, IPA, sealants, degreasers, etc... are accounts for two thirds of my time spent telling them how to look after it.

Well, as long as people actually accept your expertise when it comes down to it, you’re still in an O.K. place. Just today, a relative tried to convince me that her email address worked if she used it with the “www.” prefix, just like any web thing. Duh.

Good thing I left the web/media industry behind. Dodged bullet for sure. ;)

Also: “fallout remover” sounds pretty sick, to be honest!

Fallout remover or iron particle remover is just a general name for something that dissolves brake dust particles that can become imbedded in the paint and cause it to blister over time as it rusts and expands, etc... It’s cool to watch as it goes on clear and turns purple to show it’s working on the iron.

Ye’, it was a nice car. I’d never really been a fan of them but spending a day with one and everyone commenting on her and her colour and admiring her. Half way through the day I developed a bit of love for her. Her owner is a truck driver and he uses her as a daily driver. His mate has a blue one and it only ever leaves the garage to go to shows. The owner of this one has the right idea, it’s a car, drive it.

Since I think you like it, here’s a few more pics of her.

Though you didn’t get the regular Focus Mk2 either. Which I do quite like also.

Contrary to popular belief, I am indeed able to pick up a Mk2 whenever needed. I’m situated in Germany, so I even get to stare at Focus RSes relatively often ... one of them, don’t ask me why, is hellaflushed. It looks bad and I can’t imagine it doing any good on a car calibrated as carefully as this.

The blue RS only ever did it for me with the white wheels. I’m also okay with white on white. Heck, I’m alright with any colour whatsoever on a Focus RS, which is kind of a rare thing when you think about cars.

Good on the owner of that green one for driving it so much!

Sorry fella. I thought you were a cousin from across the pond.

It is one of those cars that suits any colour (not sure on the white wheels though) but to ‘hellaflush’ it or anything else is just wrong, so absurdly wrong.

To be fair, the channel is directly connected to the pond, so it’s not complelety wrong. ;)

From what I know, the stock RS is well able to lift a leg mid-corner, so I don’t see the point in limiting suspension travel by minimizing the wheel gap to zero.
