Question: What’s with the differently-colored panels? Is it part of the camouflage, or what?

I’m not certain, but I believe that the nose cone is a different color because of the material it is made out of is different from the rest of the plane since the radar is housed behind it. Other panels may also differ in construction, and the light is reflecting differently in different places. Overall, it’s painted in a standard low-vis livery, but I can’t find any specific info on it right now.

That and the panels may have been re coated/painted at different times after maintenance. Not sure how maintenance folks deal with stealth coatings but I know we (Army Helicopter folks) sometimes had to repaint panels of it got scraped or dinged up during removal/maintenance.

Isn’t the coating a big part of stealth, though? I’d imagine it wouldn’t work well unpainted at all.

The coating plays a part, but also the shape and the materials.

Possibly condensation? Different sections at different temperatures....fuel areas, electronics, engine(s), intakes...speculating here...
