No. Just...no. I need to stay off automotive feature sites where there’s only a front page and a larger community of dinguses...

Kinja'd!!!

...like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I’m actually glad the ineptitude of firefox is stopping me from loading my username and commenting because I was about to lay down a rant about how the 2014 CVT Outback I borrowed was anemic and everything that is wrong with CVT equipped cars.

Also why no one gives a shit about a CVT Subaru BRZ but everyone knows who Ralph Gilles is, or at least his products. My argument is simply that all the technobabble in the world will never overcome great marketing. And testosteone.

Going to step away from the (home) office and forget about typing my project car update because that unpostable rant took up the time I had alotted...and go actually work on my project car eff this I need to go get an oil restrictor machined to the proper size.

For your time here’s a picture of it still painted “scion silver” from an oooold (08’) college car club meet.

Kinja'd!!!

The Pontiac Grand Prix was owned by a quirky yet very skilled Japanese student who just wanted to try something American and different. Heh, Taketoki. I’m going to do a piece on that motherfucker.

Lol, is there a CVT BRZ now? I remember that the automatics were all you could find when they first came out, but CVT now? Ouch!

If done well, the CVT can be really quite good.

I don’t think the BRZ or FRS offer CVTs. I’m pretty sure they’re just conventional 6-speed torque converters.

Not even particularly good ones at that.

Yeah, that’s what I thought, but haven’t followed it to see it they’ve made any changes. I kind of wish I test drove an AT one just out of curiosity, but I didn’t.

Totally agree! On hybids and some SUV’s absolutely just not on the Subaru Outback unless you drive on nothing but paper flat roads!

In my hilly, curvy area the engine never really settled in and driving it in the mountains on a long trip it was straining, constantly in high rpm’s. Swear to god a VW microbus wouldhave been better

Manuals will go extinct when people stop buying them. Look at the full-size truck market - there is exactly ONE option, and it probably won’t be around much longer at that. Same goes for high-end sports cars. How many > $100k options are there with a manual? A Corvette, a Viper, and an Aston Martin, that’s about it.

The last vehicle that you’ll see offered with a manual will be a Jeep Wrangler, and that’s only because they only update them every 10 yrs. Otherwise you’ll see muscle cars, hot hatches, and economy cars dwindling away.

As has been said multiple times before, if you want to save the manuals, go buy a new one.

The only one I’ve ever liked was the o.g. CVT on an old Daf because it was hilarious. All the modern ones I’ve driven, I’ve hated. What car has a good one?

True though depressing. My argument is kinda more like the pluto is a planet or not thing.

I’ll still be mildly satified if in 20 years the only people offering manuals are the oddball extremely low volume sports car makers. Hopefully not just Factory 5 (which would be depressing) but like Fisker or TVR or whatever parallel we might have then. In that existence I hope they’ll stick around.
