I have some Gamestop store credit and am considering trading in my Forza 4 and 5 (and maybe Horizon 1 as well) copies for 6, but there’s one thing that isn’t 100% clear to me yet.
Obviously the marketing team at Turn 10 has been steadily releasing the list of the 400-plus cars that are set to be included in Forza 6, culminated with last week’s “Gone Gold” post. As with most racing games, there are some new cars that I’m really excited about (Eagle T1G, Corvette C7.R, Lotus E23) and some I’m not (I seriously do not understand having trucks and off-road-type vehicles in a track game but as is the cost of me wanting obscure race cars of the 1960s).
In Turn 10’s final, complete list of cars, the vast majority of them are labeled as “Standard Edition.” To me this says that those “Standard” cars will be available in the game from Day 1 and not hidden behind to-be-released DLCs... and yet I know Forza and how they do business.
Does anybody know if the 460 cars that have been listed (with the exception of pre-order bonuses and the anniversary cars) will in fact be available at release?
Considering the Lotus 49 and Brabham Repco BT24 were DLC cars in Forza 5, I’d figure the Eagle T1G would be a prime candidate to be DLC for 6. That’s not to mention Turn 10’s nasty habit of making cars that appeared for free in older games suddenly becoming DLC in newer games (cough cough Shelby Cobra cough).
My conundrum is that I didn’t get an Xbox One until a few months ago and bought Forza 5 as soon as I could (for around $35 or $40). I picked up the car pass for $20 during a Deals with Gold special a few weeks ago. Basically I’m looking at a $60 investment that I’ll trade in for $15 at best. I know that’s just part of the game business, but I don’t know if I want to rush to do it if most of the cars I want are behind a DLC wall.
In other news, I played the Forza 6 demo. I’d say overall I liked it. I’m excited about night and rain racing and the expanded real-world track list. The cars do seem a bit sluggish compared to what I’ve experienced in 5 and 4 and I’m hoping it’s just a physics tweak that I’ll get used to. I’m also not terribly impressed with the audio. The engine noises sound off and the tire squeal sounds like it was recorded through a coffee can.

I could be wrong, but I’m almost certain that all of the standard edition cars are literally standard. I’d estimate a total of 550-600 cars once they start pumping out DLC.

The only cars which won’t be available in the standard copy of the game or as free DLC are the VIP cars.

Hopefully that’s the case. It’d be pretty shitty of them to advertise 460 cars but stick 100 of them on DLCs.

Here’s hoping for the Starion to come back. That and the Pantera were my favorite cars in Forza 4

Every car listed as “Standard” comes with the game from the get go. DLC cars don’t get announced until it gets close to the time when that DLC pack gets announced. This is because a lot of times, they have no idea what the DLC will be yet. Just look at the Porsche Expansion for Horizon 2 as a prime example.

That’s what I was thinking. Thanks for clearing it up. I was going to wait on 6 but I find myself wanting it more and more.

No problem. Personally, I cannot wait to get the game. I pre-ordered it as soon as I could, hahaha. I own every game going back to the very first on the original XBox, so I guess I count as a bit of a fanboy, hahaha.

I just got back into racing games about a year and a half ago with GT6. My previous serious racing game would have been the first Project Gotham Racing way back when. I traded in a bunch of stuff to get Forza 4 and Forza Horizon 1 for pretty much nothing back in January. I finally caved and upgraded to Xbox One in June and got Forza 5. Now I’m going to trade in all of them to put toward Forza 6. I’ve been won over.

Oh man, I loved the Project Gotham series. I think I had all of those as well. Those were what really got me into sim racing games and away from things like Need For Speed. And then TOCA Race Drive 2 reinforced that idea. And the Forza Motorsport had me hooked to only sim-racers. From there, I’ve been a Forza loyalist. I’ve tried playing other games, but Forza just feels right to me.

I did one of the Test Drive games back then and a couple NASCAR Thunder titles but driving games for me over the last 10 years or so consisted mostly of GTA IV and GTA V. I rented a handful of GTA clones over the years but have litterally only recently gotten into the sim scene. My recent obsession with F1 and sportscar racing has helped and guess which series has the best selection of classic F1 cars.
