When I was in Toronto, I kept wondering why the CSX looked so familiar (for non-Civic reasons, obviously) when we don’t have it down here. It finally dawned on me just now.

Those taillights. Acura wore it better, though.

Acura was stupid for not selling the CSX down here. It would’ve done well. Heated seats and leather, more luxury and prestige, and a bit more power (base engine was the 160 hp K20).

I’d totally rock a CSX Type-S with 8000 rpm and heated seats and mirrors!

That’s basically what is now the ILX... The ILX get crap for being too close to the Civic... What do you think would be the market response for a CSX that’s even much closer the ‘06 Civic than the ILX is to the ‘12 Civc?

Then you realize... mad Type R tail lights shared on the CSX:

I’m honestly not sure I’ve ever seen that... I assume it’s Japan-only or just really uncommon?

I still think the market response would’ve been positive in light of all that. Acura did the low-end luxury market the best, and killing off the Integra/RSX was a big mistake! Legendary Civic virtues but with more luxury and prestige.

Remember, Toyota has no problem selling a rebadged Camry as a Lexus.

The ILX needs to offer the base 2.0L with a manual transmission. The 2.4 ILX is neutered just like the new Si. They need to bring back the 8000 rpm. They could very well get 250 hp from 2.4L. Also, the starting price is way too high as well. It should start closer to 20k, 2.0 and 6-speed.

That’s wildly different the Lexus example, at least since the late 2000s. The ES is no longer just a Camry with a luxury badge.

The RSX was killed because it wasn’t selling well anymore. How exactly do you propose getting all of that power, and dropping the pricepoint by over $7,000, while staying a luxury mobile?

I’d love to hear your plan because I just don’t see that happening (and I happen to be in this field, so this is my opinion based on some industry happenings)

The base model would have the R20 engine and a 6-speed manual, perhaps cloth seats (or even vinyl like the Germans do, like MB-Tex, which they use even in cars costing double that price point!), a slightly less opulent radio with no subwoofer, manual climate control and seat adjustments. Of course, few of them would actually be sold this way, but a lower base price would still get people into Acura showrooms.

Base ILX $22k or so, with the manual 2.0
some kind of package like $1000-2000 with the auto climate control, power seats, upgraded stereo system

$1000 for an automatic transmission

the upcharge for leather instead of cloth/leatherette/vinyl

the packages Acura already offers for the ILX

$26k for the cheapest model with the 2.4 engine, but with more standard features, manual transmission standard, automatic optional.

The ILX switched to an 8-speed DCT for 2016. And DCT’s are much more expensive than regular automatics, especially in cars under 40k that don’t sell in Focus/Fiesta volumes (the DCT is not available on any Civic). Not that Honda is very good at automatic transmissions, anyway, but still.

Yeah, that’s the 8th-gen Civic that everyone else got - I much prefer it to the USDM one. I’ll admit that the resemblance between those taillights is part of why I like the current Cruze.

Interestingly enough, I saw a stanced red car pass me on the highway last night - I’m pretty damn sure it was an 8th-gen USDM Civic with a rear end swap to look like the international one.
