so you may know that I recently started a new job which provides toilet paper and a work vehicle. Its great that I dont have to put the wear and tear on my WRX or pay for gas for the week.

Kinja'd!!!

The bad is I dont get to drive the WRX. Even on the weekends when we’re hauling the kids around I’ll very rarely get to drive it. Its becoming more and more depressingly apparent that it should be sold as it is not benefiting our fiances to have it just sit there as my wife’s car needs part after (front struts are next)

today i test drove a V70R. The place was shady, a run down old house with an office in the back room and about 40 Volvos in various states of existence. The guy said its a great car and drives fine. Hes been useing it to drive around for the last couple months.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

This one had 135k miles and wanted $9,600. The steering was odd and he attributed it to the steering knuckle and that its to be replaced and is already on its way. He also said regardless of its state, the timing belt will be replaced. The V70R just wasn’t as raw as the WRX. it also felt loose like a typical 11 year old (car) would. I’m going to pass. I picked up Mrs OppoWRX and we went to look at this

we just looked quick. the guy I want to deal with was off til Thursday (I bought my Sport Trac from him) I like these but something left me unimpressed on this one.

There is a small possibility that I will pass on the R’s all together and we will have just share the Flex. That would leave us with about a $10k car loan. ($25 for the WRX - $15k loan, plus $5k for the Escape. This kinda seems like the most responsible choice but I see conflict arising when we both want to go somewhere but there is only 1 car (I can not use the GPS tracked work truck for personal stuff)

Any thoughts? Any takers $25k/WRX?

Getting rid of a WRX for a Flex. I’ve seen it all. Don’t get the Flex because like you mentioned, 2 people 1 car.

My opinion:

Assuming the Escape is overall still a good car, sell the WRX, put some $1-2K money into the escape to make sure everything is in top shape. Spend another $1-5K on a second “fun beater” that is capable of carrying the whole family if needed(so it can also function as a backup car), then bank the other ~$20K towards a future car when the escape craps out or your situation changes.

Maybe try the MKT out? Might just need something a little fancier?

1. Sell WRX

2. Fix whatever is broke on Escape

3. Buy yourself something cheapish that you can use when you need to. Doesn't need to be a R Volvo, but it doesn't have to be a Camry either

4. Everyone gets a car, but no more payment for WRX

well the situation kinda did change and now its starting to get to us. we go allot of places with other people and it almost always requires us to take 2 cars. even with just 5 people its uncomfortable for the person stuck between the two car seats. I guess one thing I should have pointed out is that we have twin 3 y/o

well the flex would be mostly for the wife and weekend trips.
I may still end up with something cheap but that might be left for another post down the road

yea but we need something with more seats and neither the escape and the Flex has that.

its not that the Flex isn’t Fancy, maybe just wasn;t cared for or something. The MKT is nice but would just result in a higher loan

It sure would I hear that.

Maybe check out an Explorer? I mean, the Taurus/Flex/Explorer/MKT/MKS are all the same underneath. And the Explorer still has the same amount of seats.

yea. I talked to the guy at the dealer yesterday and he said on average for an equal Flex and Explorer , the Explorer is aprx $2k more. We dont really need the ground clearance or towing

But maybe the feel of it will be what you’re looking for vs. the Flex.

I imagine it may feel different, and I get the cost analysis, but if you don’t like the flex, the 2k is worth it. Like you said - maybe it was just that one. But I would say it’s worth.... exploring!

God damn that was terrible...

i lol’d i just barely sat in it. we didn;t drive it. the sales guy i wanted to work with wsn;t there. maybe the paint just wasnt as shiny as I expected. i think it was more the car itself than the flex as a vehicle

OK Those are all fair points.

Also, I’m anti-new-explorer because the windshield slope is like a minivans when you’re inside it.

well it would be like a 2013. I really like the new new body style with the squarer headlights. I never liked the 2013 generation. i felt like all the curves in the body work made it look girly and overwieght.

I agree with you on that one. I like the new/new body style. Looks so much better.

I almost bought a white 2014 Flex, but my wife really didn’t like the looks of a flex, and the mpg’s are not the best in the segment. We ended up getting a 2014 pathfinder and so far I realy don’t regret it. So much leg room in the back.

hell yes,

Kinja'd!!!

Comfy for adults in all 3 rows. Easy to get in the 3rd row too. The CVT really grew on me. best in class MPG’s tows 5000lbs. I got an SL with the tech package, 13 speaker stereo with nav, electric seats, keyless start/entry. It’s the only 7 seater I tried that had actual trunk space when the 3rd row is up. With the Kia you can fit a box cheerios. I didn’t like the Flex’s interior, felt cheap inside.the 2014’s had a bit better dash layout, but everything felt cheap to me

60/40 sliding 2 row with insane legroom for the 2nd row. Easy to climb in the 3rd row.

the VQ35DE is one of nissan’s best engines ever, and sounds good too.

So far it’s a very nice place to sit my ass in
