I find myself running low on energy these days. I managed to go 20 days without coffee. Mind you I quit coffee, soda,, smoking, and fast food back in 2009 when I switched units in the marine corps. I have since picked coffee and Chick-fil-A back up as bad habits. Mind you I have leanred more about how coffee can be beneficial to your health so long as it is not loaded up with sugar and other junk, but like any drug it needs to be cycled on and off of.
Long story short, I am having difficulty maintaining energy to go to the gym, so I am going to start again from ground zero. I am going to do 25 push-ups and 25 squats every hour of the day for the next 2 weeks. I challenge you Oppos, to do 10-15 push-ups and 10-15 squats every hour of your workday. Pop up from your desk, workstation, etc for a water/potty break and bang out a quick set of push-ups and squats with me.

Shit. I’ll be lucky to squeeze out 10 of each. However, now that my boys are back in school, I’m back to my morning 10-mile bike ride and I’m back to (mostly) my better food diet. What I really need to give up is beer.
You are right about the benefits of coffee. A number of years ago, when both my stress levels and BP were sky high, I started drinking half-caf coffee. I buy one big bag of Colombian beans and one big bag of Colombian decaf and mix them together in a big bowl. Then I grind that half-and-half mixture every day and limit myself to one pot shared with my wife (I drink about 2/3 of it). I’m not sure of just how much that half caffeine is helping, and there is certainly a
placebo effect
going along with it.

I hope you haven’t picked up CFA’s coffee. I find it awful. Most everything else is good, though.

Combine low-acid high yield coffee (Cuban beans typically are the strongest) and intermittent fasting (prolonging the period between meals from dinner before 7pm all for up to 16 hours) and you can see the fat going away swiftly.

Dear God, no. I grind my own, typically french press it but I received a nice drip maker with a “bold” setting that kicks my standard coffee maker flavor up to french press levels.

I would, but I would look like a real weirdo doing it in my office. I’ve been doing something a bit slower. I have been doing of pushups and situps after work, and adding one to each set every day. I may have to add squats.

Lol, weird, I justy recently really got into coffee. I use to drink GI coffee (make a pot of coffee with normal water, then put the coffee back through fresh grounds multiple times)

But is that a sustainable lifestyle? That’s the big thing about diets and regimens. You can do the Atkins, the Paleo, whatever, but you can’t necessarily eat that way your whole life, and you will inevitably go back to your bad habits. I remember talking to my doctor about my BP. I had gone on a strict diet/exercise regimen and gotten my BP down without drugs. But then I fell off the wagon, and my doc wanted me back on BP meds. I said, “Doc, I know what to do to bring it down,” and he replied, “Yes, but will you do it?” That’s the reality for most people. I know what is making me fat: beer and lack of exercise. I eat reasonably well, avoid junk food and fast food (mostly). But I’m basically sedentary, save for my hour of biking in the morning, and with a small dose of BP med my BP is right where it needs to be. Now I just need to lose 30 pounds. For now, I’ll be happy with 5. Then 5 more.

With intermittent fasting and moderate exercise it only becomes an isue of burning whatever calories you intake or more if you are trying to loose weight/fat.
Try intermittent fasting for 2-3 weeks.
Eat within a window of 8 hours, the rest of the time of the day only intake water, black coffee or other ZERO CALORIE fluids. You can pretty much eat whatever you want during the intake window, but do not eat before you have reached the start of your next window. Ideally you should start with no longer than a 12 hour window before eating breakfast.
Example:
I eat my breakfast - 3 boiled eggs, 2/3 cup uncooked oats + 1/4 cup raspberries + 1/4 cup blueberries and 1 banana @ 1030AM CST
I eat lunch @ 1230PM-1300PM: 4-8oz of grilled/baked chicken or today grilled sirloin with a small amount of carb/starch (pasta, rice, potatoes) and a couple large handfuls of vegetables (today cauliflower, carrots, red bell peppers/ usually green beans though)
afternoon snack 1500PM-1600PM: honestly whatever I feel ike having; yesterday I had orange marmalade pastries and carrots
dinner 1830-2000PM: Dinner, generally just whatever my wife makes, always good and wholesome; last night we had grilled chicken nachos with guacomole, black beans, and salsa; followed up with blueberry, strawberry, raspberry and peach fruit salad - no sugar added and then a large piece of chocolate cake with 2cups of chocolate ice cream.
I will eat my first meal of the day today @ 1030 thereby having a 14 hour fast. I am not ready yet for a 16 hour fast but I have lost 10lbs of fat. I can see it only really in side profile as I have both wide hips and very wide shoulders so unless I get really really lean in the stomach area my abs are not visible.

Now that soccer practice is starting, there is no “typical” time. But generally, breakfast is at 7:00, lunch around noon, dinner at 6:00-6:30. But that’s all shot to hell on Tuesday and Thursday, because we have soccer practices from 5:30-8:30.

I’ve switched to 4-packs of .5L cans. The cost is a bit less than a 6-pack, and I generally end up sipping on it longer than blasting through a 12 0z bottle. As for my doctor, he doesn’t drink at all, so he admitted that his statement was a little unfair. Still, he’d rather I not go more than 1/day. So I try to save my credits for Friday and Saturday.

I’d rather save my credits for Friday.
Exactly. I’ve given up having beer with dinner, or really at any point during the work-week. Friday is my day as we get to have beer/wine during the last hour of the day at our office. And then maybe Saturdays depending on what’s going on.

Hate to break it to her but stopping at parallel is not a correct squat. That’s not just me passing judgement, it’s a universal part of the exercise.

I recently got my max pushups to nearly 60 (first set), but I’ve never tried doing 25/hour all throughout the day. I’ve always wanted to try, but I just never think about it. That volume would be insane by the end of the day, but those are nice long rest periods between.
I quit the gym about 8 months ago and don’t have real weight space at home, so I’ve taken to doing workouts in a spare office at lunch. HSPUs, pushups, reverse pushups (under the desk), dips in the L-shape of the desk, various core/ab work, some gymnastics skills, and running our 11 floor stairwell (several times), at least once a week.
Yeah, my coworkers all think I’m a weirdo. But screw them.

....according to Olympic and power lifting competition standards that is the correct form for a strength movement.
a bodybuilding/speed-conditioning squat is deeper to activate more dense and intrinsic muscle fibers and recruit them into the movement.

That is not correct.
Squatting to parallel will usually DQ a lift at a powerlifting meet if the judge is on. I’ve seen it happen.
And, I’m not saying a lifter has to go three inches below parallel or I redlight him/her, but they have to at least BREAK the plane.
^ straight from a USAPL judge
Edit: What constitutes “correct” near the limit is always being argued. But aside from that, she’s not at parallel anyway. Check out the 1:00 mark.

I had been taught that 75-85 degrees was optimal for competition.
Okay fine let me go find a pretty lady demonstrating complete 100% form and edit the post. When I do front squats I go to the grass, when I do overhead squats I do the same, heavy standard squats I just break the 90 degree plane. But, I have been out of the gym for almost a year now, (I can’t handle the negativity from my spouse regarding my time management right now)
