I talked to her about her work, she says a lot of it is heavily influenced by consumerism and how we perceive what should appeal to girls, including children.

That actually makes a lot of sense in hindsight. I did really enjoy the yellow water (?) particle effects, especially on the rim of the flower face. That was really cool.

Mm, she says it’s “endless hours in Maya.”

Art is one thing I will never understand.

Ha, I’d imagine so! I’d played with 3ds max back in school, it takes a lot of work.

I get that (once it is explained to me). Honestly, my initial reaction was that her body looks like a wonderland. But, maybe that feeds into her consumerism narrative?

3D modeling is super intense and complicated.

I completely agree, plus the foresight in making your idea is really important. For my class we had to make a scene from a video game we made up. I had a dead end street with a playground at the end of it. I decided to try and make all the buildings, items, playsets, and graphics from scratch....yeah...

As i’m writing this, i discovered i still have pretty much all my files and graphics. Of course, nothing is pre-rendered except this concept of the playground, pre-graphics.

I had a similar assignment for using 3D models to tell a story in a scene in Maya.

In September last year I ripped some skin open on my pinky working on a car seat.

Wait, did you do those cars? They are pretty good! And the green hair girl, the one that’s sings; I shutter at her poly count. I don’t think there’s a straight line on her, it’s all curves, all those points....

I also really like the house. Is it just a shell though? Or is there some interior done?

Hah thanks, all those are just 3D models I found for free online. Turbosquid and 3D Warehouse.

Yeah I would have never guessed that in a million years. I appreciate how much work it must take and how wierd and different it is but I just look at it and move on.
