GM Vortec 4200 I-6 with a turbo from a Duramax, swapped into a Supra with Mustang wheels.
What?

1 : this sound surprisingly like a japanese JZ.
2: that has to be the worst car video ever. Editing, anyone?

The altas is an underappreciated motor.

I have fanciful dreams of slapping a turbo on mine someday and then enjoying this:

FUCK YES. You have no idea how much I like the idea of turbo 4200 Vortec I6s. DOHC, VVT, huge displacement (for a modern I6)- It could be the American 2Jz!

Would drive.

I have one (‘04) Envoy and I love it. Fantastic motor.

It is, if it weren’t for the terrible interior quality and inevitable Midwestern rust, I’d keep our Envoy forever.

Now the GMT360? those were...less admirable. Its a damn shame that GM doesn’t know what to do with their good but unique motors. This should have been the only engine choice in the colorado/canyon/H3 (okay, maybe the 5.3 too). Same goes the ecotec III 4.3, whats that going in? its a great motor.

Another turbo Atlas! In a wagon! That ran a 9.47 at 147!

Yeah, it does seem like quite a waste to develop a totally new engine family only to throw it in 1 SUV model and a non-competitive small truck for a handful of years.
They are gas hogs, though. The mileage I get in the Envoy is not a whole lot better than what I got in my ‘03 Ram 1500 5.7 that the Envoy replaced.

I approve of this.

Vortec Turbo IROC. That whistle.

Thats the I6 way, though I suspect it mas more to do with the weight of the truck being moved by a relatively small motor.

I just love these unusual engine swaps. They are built by somebody who said “I want to build x with a y with and a z” and just went ahead and did it.

Really? My Dad got low 20's out of ours.

It’s a shame the Trailblazer SS didn’t come with the engine it was supposed to.

I get 16-17 average. If I’m not towing anything or heavily loaded I’ll get ~20 on the highway going 65-70.

My Dad drove highway mostly, so that explains that. It also requires a special touch that I didn’t have, I like the rev it out.
