So I’ve been spending a lot of time on Craigslist since the Jaguar became sold, and I’ve seen some cool stuff. Mostly I’ve been looking at Fox body Mustangs, but I’ve also found a nice ‘66 Mustang coupe (six cylinder 3 speed!) and a lot of other neat junk...but this? This is just fantastic.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
A vintage Pinto race car of some sort with a nice looking engine of zero description, a 3 speed transmission of some sort, and gigantic Hoosier slicks. I mean look at this thing!
I may need to make time this weekend to go see this thing. I mean...what can I do with it? Can I run it at a track day? Autocross? Vintage racing? No idea, but it just looks like about the most fun you could buy for $3500.

It almost looks like somebody was trying to make their own modified for a local short track.

Pintos and Vegas were chopped up and modified into circle track race cars. Lotta old-school NASCAR drivers, mechanics, owners, etc. started their journeys from there. There’s apparently a series that still runs them .

That car appears to be setup for oval. You wouldn’t want auto-x something with so much weight on one side.

Yeah, I mean its absolutely set up for a circle track...the body is offset, but I might be able to do something about that. I’m gonna call the guy tomorrow, if nothing else I want to go see it in person, it’s only about half an hour from me.

Yeah, I noticed that when looking at the other pictures, definitely offset. I’ll have to look into it a bit further.

Its easily my favorite thing I’ve seen on Craigslist...maybe ever. I’d knock down the wall between my man cave and garage and just sit and look at it.

The series that runs vintage circle track cars is NEAR (New England Antique Racers.) Good group of folks-I spent a weekend set up next to them at a car show.

Looks pretty cool. I guess they just ran my local track, Seekonk Speedway, two days ago. I’m trying to figure out how you can set up an offset chassis car to turn right as well...
