All I can say is that it’s going to be extra-funny to see Hollywood keep buying this for smugness. I feel like Toyota is just testing the boundaries of their perceived brand image.
here is an anti-emetic to make you feel better

I wish they had made the Prius V’s rear wagon part about 50%-100% longer, it would’ve looked pretty decent. Sure the front end is stupid looking, but it’s fixable

Holy crap, I hadn’t seen the back before. Toyota/Lexus design is going to gaudy, over-sculpted shit.
I look forward to the revival of the Honda Insight.

Looks good to me. But the celebs are flocking to the Tesla Model S and will likely be flocking to the Model X when it’s available.

Stop it already ... stop shitting on this car. Toyota took a stab, and continues to move the ball forward, at hybrid technology. I’ve driven a first gen, and the latest as a rental, and it’s a good way to get around. Frequently, a lot of us say we love all cars (even an Aztek). So this is a car. Show some respect.

Lexus has lead, but Toyota is following along nicely... all following Nissan’s lead of their designers’ minds taking a walk off a map.
Seriously... what the hell happened to designers, and actually trying to attain new variations on timelessly good design?
That doesn’t even try to be well arranged or proportioned, and is evidently the sworn enemy of visual flow an aesthetics.

God I hate so many things about this.
First off the front badge looks like a single buck tooth, second the hood bulge is Angled out WAY to wide. The rear is worse. For some reason it feels like the designers saw the i8, liked it, tried to do something similar in a way that represented Toyota and this is what they got. The rear roof line looks like it was pinched inwards, and brought down to look more fast back-ish. And what’s with the Blacked out C-pillars? To represent wrap around glass? Why? But to add insult to injury, they added a little fang where the windows meet the trunk glass, which faces the opposite way of the taillights. The reverse sweeping taillight are just terrible in general, it reminds me of vampire teeth, and the entire rear quarter panel has a giant section “sculpted” out just to fit the the rear tail lights design, as if the taillights were drawn first, and the rear of the car was designed to fit them. And on top of that, in between the taillights is just a boring old Prius again! I swear they copied and pasted the old design in there. I mean, they have a wrap-around “spoiler” (it’s not a spoiler, but I think that’s the look they’re going for) that brings back memories of the Aztek, complete with the glass that’s in the actual trunk. I mean at least blend it a little bit into the quarter panels and lights! It’s so bad, the rear facet of the trunk doesn’t even match up with the bottom trunk glass, which just makes it look awkward.
I won’t say it’s all bad:
The headlight+little triangle thing facet underneath is kinda nice, but it’d be so much better if they cut that little hanging Pentagon, and I also like how the headlight forms the line between the hood and the quarter panel, and how that then blends into the A-pillar.
I think the overall problem is, it’s trying to be unique in every possible way, by trying to alter the main points we use to identify cars w/o the badge (taillights, side profile/roofline, head lights, etc). However it comes off as choppy, without any transition from element to element.
Just my 2¢

I own a 2011 prius and think it is one of the best I’ve ever owned. This car however is ugly, abd unless it’s way more efficient, comfortable or affordable I’m not trading up any time soon

When Toyota looks at this car, I’d imagine they say the same thing Todd Barry once said people with a neck tattoo say when they see their neck tattoo: shit, I forgot to not do that.
Just awful looking. The Prius has been as successful as it is because its quite good and it just kinda blends into the background. That car NEEDS to be boring but not ugly, and shit, Toyota forgot to not do that.

It’s so un-boring it’s horrendous. Chaotic elements clashing together, doesn’t look like a Toyota, and far too many derivative elements. Headlamps look inspired by the 458. Air intake by the Fisker Karma and Atlantic. Rear pillars by the Jaguar XJ. Rear tail lights are inverted Volvo wagon/SUV. The roofline and hatch treatment are clearly Prius though, but it’s like some awful customizing shop got ordered to make a body kit for a current car to make it stand out from the normal cars.
Overall it looks like a pissed-off badger or rodent.

Apparently all good/talented designers (or the companies that allow them to do what they do best) are at Ford and formerly-Ford-owned companies: Mazda, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Land Rover, and Volvo.

For what it’s worth, I showed these pictures to my mom who is a former Prius owner. The only reason she doesn’t drive one now is b/c my sister and I forbid her from buying another Prius.
She described this monstrosity as, “ sleek and sexy. The Prius has always been a sexy looking car! ”
Before you respond, take into consideration that my mom was thrilled when my dad replaced his gray Audi S8 with a blue S8 because “I always confused his car for mine.” She drives a gray Lexus ES300h.
No, really, she had trouble telling the difference between a Lexus hybrid and an Audi flagship because they were both gray 4-door sedans.
So Toyota only needs to maintain the Prius shape to please their target customers. If it looks like a hybrid, drives like an appliance, returns 50+ mph, and NEVER requires maintenance, then it is a successful Prius.
This new one will sell like hotcakes.
