Stopped by Back in the Day Classics in Carson, CA today. I’m new to my love of older cars, but some of this stuff was so cool. I hate I didn’t take more photos, as I spent most of the time just ogling, but these are some of my favorites.
Really sweet BMW 2002.
Prop from a Flinstones movie.
TONS of neon.
This Crosley thing. Supposedly the first roadster made in the US.
More neon. Needs more dinosaur.
I think this was a Chevy, but I forget. This truck was absolutely amazing, and I would drive it 10/10 times. That wood in the bed...mmmmm.
I LOVED this Jensen Interceptor.
There was also a 1970 Beetle that was unrestored and absolutely beautiful. I’d have given them the $12k for it if I had it. It was perfect and tan and beautiful. But that truck...

Cool bus, too. This place seems great. That Crosley is the Hot Shot and was indeed America’s first roadster. A really slow one, but a cool car nonetheless. Powered by a .75 liter motor made not from cast steel or aluminum, but brazed together tin sheets, if you can believe it.

Every time I go into Korman to get my 335i fixed there garage is filled with 2002’s in various stages of restoration. One day I am worried I will drive one home.

You have to ask yourself if that would really be the worst thing in the world.

That’s crazy. Somehow I get the feeling engine longevity wasn’t a strong point...

No, they completely fell apart and it was a disaster. The heat would melt the brazing. They went to cast aluminum fairly soon, I believe, but the damage was done and that was pretty much the end of Crosley.

I absolutely loved the interior of that thing. The seats were furry, so I’d have ‘em recovered, but the dash/center stack was incredible. As someone who doesn’t know much about them, did they make this thing in a manual?

Yep. Need one. I think this one was going for $17.5 or something. They also had this:

That 911 or this 1993 Dodge Viper would be my picks.

I didn’t see this! And the Interceptor wasn’t on the lot today. I think it was sold...

Hopefully it went to a good home

I love old cars too, but I am from the era of “1990s? That’s old.”
The commitment to give new life to an old car really demands commitment. I always get questions like, “Isn’t that a lot of work?” It is, and it’s part of the experience.
