As any of you who follow me outside of Oppo, you will know that I went back to school this past week, at the wonderful HighLand Mall ACC location. It’s a pretty cool campus, state of the art, and it’s a renovated shopping mall, so it has a unique feel. Classes are good so far, but today I spent the day trying to track down my textbooks, and let me tell you, that is a process that is far more cumbersome than it deserves. Like seriously, the fact they get away with what they do is criminal. And god help you if you need a book with an online section. Together I paid 250+ for two books, one of them used, and as a rental.

Then I get home. I also moved recently, and it’s coming up to the first time paying rent here. My checks got lost in them move, so I have to order some. No big deal I think. No, fuck that. Loading a site that looks like it was built pre 9/11 is never a good sign. That and being told that I have to pay 15 bucks for a box of checks is insane. It’s 2015, why are we paying for checks? I’m going to have to go to wells fargo anyways to get a cashiers check, I better just try and see what they can do. /rants over

Paying for checks? I thought all you millenial kids were supposed to be cutting edge, but so many of you use traditional brick & mortar banks...I blame your parents!

Plug: Discover Bank pays 0.95% on savings, and their checking is not only free, but they actually give you free checks AND pay you $0.10 for each one you write (or each bill you pay online). Crazy, right?

/haven’t used a traditional bank for my primary accounts in almost 15 years

You might be able to get some counter checks, they are usually free and the bank can put your acct number on them. Some places wont take them so you might want to ask your land lord before hand. They are pretty much for the exact thing you described, lost checkbook or waiting for your new ones to come.

Hey, fellow Austinite. There seem to be several of us on here, we should figure out some kind of meet-up to bs about cars. I'll be trying to get out to the vw meet at Austin pizza. Been meaning to check that out for a while now.

My bank’s billpay thing works to essentially be free checks. Just set it up they’ll mail you one every time it’s due. If you’re landlord will accept them at their address it’s completely hands off, otherwise set it up with their name and your address and you can just go hand it off.

I have to use Wells fargo for banking, as it’s where my college account is. But that actually sounds lovely.
