Given the hullabaloo about the JGC TrackHawk I was curious about what Oppo would Hellcat if given the chance.
So, ignoring limitations due to size, drivetrain, manufacturer, logic, etc. what currently offered vehicle would you Hellcat? Why?
I’d throw it in the Colorado because 1) I want a truck 2) it would be stupid fun and 3) I think it needs something to make it seem “tough”.
Have at it!

How awesome would that be as a marketing campaign for FCA, to buy up brand new vehicles from other manufacturers and show them being torn down & rebuilt with a the Hellcat treatment. And then try to sell them back to the dealerships they bought them from. Automotive trolling at its finest.
It’d be funny if Hellcat became the next Small Block Chevy...

It even matches manufacturer, feel free to cram one in our Jeep Commander in place of the slug 3.7L V6 please. For the record they came with HEMI’s so it’s not too far off in crazy land.
Yes I know you said I could put it in anything but the lack of power in that 3.7 kills my soul.

If you will provide the engine at the end of a season, I’m sure my FSAE team would be willing to make the huge sacrafice of hooking it up to the car. (if the car would survive that’s a completely diffrent matter.)

Realistically though, I’d be happy with a Trackhawk Renegade (not that I would buy it, I just like the idea). Give it something with say 300HP/AWD and it could be plenty of fun.

God I can’t believe they put that noise maker in a 1500.
It must be useless as a real truck.
This summer driving back from SC to MI we cut through the Appalachians in WV and I’m telling you I had this thing FLOORED and couldn’t crack 80 mph.

We pulled a little over a ton when we were moving, and it did fine for 450 miles. It’s a 6-speed/regular cab truck, so that probably helps a bit. It still weighs nearly 5k.

Yeah it would but a ton sounds fancy, it’s still only 2,000 pounds. The Commander with the 3.7 is rated at 3500 pounds, so around 1 ton/2000 pounds is about all I’d feel comfortable hooking up to it.
I like to refer to the engine as an anchor. But the other 2 vehicles I drive are my surprisingly zippy V6 Mercury Milan and my 1968 Mercury Montego.

Dad’s is rated at 5k pounds, but we’ve never tested it. But you don’t know boat anchor until you’ve used something with a 3VZE, granted other than head gaskets they’re damn near bulletproof. The 3.7 is a stallion in comparison.

08/27/2015 at 15:06 | 0 |
I dunno man. If it is I feel bad for you. And oh yeah don’t worry it’s just head gaskets, only one of the most expensive things to replace on an engine....no worries...rock solid....
the 3500 limitation is because we have the full time 4x4 option which is more like AWD than true 4x4.

If I do it myself it’s less than $1k, plus with the most recent OEM components(which it has) it’s supposed to completely fix the problem, so now it’s just change the oil occasionally and slowly go. But it’s 150hp at 4800 rpm and 180ft.lbs. at 3900 rpm in something that weighs 3800lbs and is turning 33” tires.

oh STFU
a GM Small Block V8 is the pinnacle of reliability, and I’m mainly a Ford guy.
I’m not going to say the other stuff on the cars/trucks are perfect, but the core, the engine itself is a rock.
Jordan and the Slowrunner, Boomer Intensifies
> MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner

While somewhat durable, there are a lot of engines out there that well past outshine it. It’s kind of like the 22R/RE: It’s cheap as shit to modify and fix and it will always run, but not necessarily well. A cheap small block weighs more than a 1UZ any way, plus the 1UZ hooks up to the factory computer and will most certainly run well longer. Also, the 1UZ is nearly, if not as cheap when comparing mileage/power.

Reliability is pretty compelling, less weight is legitimate. For example: It’s Matt Farah’s million mile,
unrebuilt
Lexus LS400(contains 1UZ), not Matt Farah’s million mile, unrebuilt GMT400 Tahoe.
