With winter coming up, I’m sure were all wishing for a reliable, comfortable, AWD, car. Why not trow in a V8 while your at it? But who wants to drop a bunch of money on a car your going to drive all winter?
I found two cars the fit this ,absolutely irreverent(for me), bill. Which would you choose?
2008 STS 4
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
2007 300C AWD
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
For me the STS almost wins on looks alone, but I know for a fact that the 300C with its 70/30 rear bias, is a ton of fun in the snow with the traction control turned off.

Get a Magnum R/T with AWD. Insurance is dirt cheap.

I was actually going to suggest the STS. Those cars seem like a total steal. Reliable, 320hp, and all the goodies you could ever want for 8k or less. What's not to love?

Wiiiiinter tires on a cheaper rwd sts

Between those two, I’d go for the Caddy.
However, I live in Texas so I don’t need AWD for winter. I can drive on all but the coldest wettest days in my RWD sports car on summer performance tires without too much trouble.

I bet it is. I even found one. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ram/cto/516561…

An AWD car from a BHPH lot? What could possibly go wrong?
If I had to I’d go Mopar.

That must be nice. A mild winter where I live means the roads, excluding highways, are only covered in snow form December to March.

I mean, it’s not luxury, but hey.

BHPH?

Buy Here Pay Here. “All Credit Accepted” joints. Some are good many are bad.

To me the Caddy and 300C are only luxury in the seats lol. I mean the gauge cluster in the STS looks like it came out of a Cargo Van. But big comfy seats, are well comfy.
On the other had wagons are awesome even if the roof is so low the rear cargo area is barely useful.

Oh, I see.

It is nice. However, the flip side is oppressive heat from late May to late September.

always go Cadillac

But at least it’s a dry heat. When I visisted my parents in TX it was 85-95 the hole time, but it was not anywhere near as bad as 90ish is here in Wi. Humidity is the worst. But it only hits over 80 here for like a week or two in July, or August.

The only thing I’d be scared of is that engine. I’m pretty sure that’s still a Northstar, not an LS. And Northstars are ticking timebombs.

STS is junk. Better an S80 V8 AWD. Or an old Jeep Grand Cherokee (or two as a backup or parts scavenging), Land Rover Discovery (ditto), Range Rover (ditto), Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and more.

It’s not always a dry heat. Early July in Austin sees nearly 90% humidity and temps in the 90s. Houston is miserable and muggy from early January to late December.

Ooooh. S80 V8 would be so sweet

Not a bad price. those cars are usually crazy over priced.
That said. Getting that car serviced is a scary situation for me. Either A take it to a private VAG mechanic an hour away, who is trustworthy but takes forever to get anything done, B take it two the VW dealership an hour and a half away... or C take it to an Actual Audi dealership 4 hours away, or D risk it and that it too the guy I take my wife’s Chevy and hope he is good enough to figure out a car he’s probably never found himself under before.

I hear you. I am lucky to have a trustworthy VAGCOM Indie place (although they close all of August until after labor day for holiday, like the hardcore europeans they are, no shit) and a friend who can handle most of what doesn’t require a lift or body parts off. Why are they so little dealerships around? Not in Minneapolis-St.Paul I assume.

No I’m about 1 hour east of Duluth right on Lake Superior. Funny thing is My town is a bit of a hippy, arty-fartsy town, a VW or Subaru dealership would probably survive here, but you have to go to Duluth for either. All we have here is a Ford and Chrysler dealership, a Chevy, GMC, Buick, Corvette(they usually have two in the showroom) dealership, and a Honda, Toyota, Scion Dealership.

Get yourself a VAG.

interesting. I’ll have to look into it more.

Bullshit! I had an ‘05 Bonneville GXP with the Northstar. At 140k miles, it was “using” 1 quart of oil every 110 miles. I’ll never own a Northstar again.

Don’t by a hemi engine with over 30k miles unless they’ve installed a catch can. The intake manifold will be filled with sludge.
Or you could buy my car: 2012 AWD Charger RT max (1 owner, fully loaded) - catch can, EBC brake pads and slotted rotors, Corsa Extreme catback exhaust, K&N intake and fiberglass ram air hood, American Racing wheels with new summer tires and stock wheels with Blizzaks already installed and Oracle LEDs. Oh and the canned Diablo 93 octane tune.
Adult owned, never abused. It was my choice for a fun daily driver that had room enough for my son. 83k miles and not a single problem....I want a new ATS-V or possibly a Quadrifoglio
![]() 08/27/2015 at 12:29 |

Or should I just keep it for DD and winter use...and pick up 2015 Z51 instead? Decisions, decisions.....

Cadillac. It’s a much more attractive car.
![]() 08/27/2015 at 12:59 |

I have heard they eat oil. What did you GXP have? A 4.6 with 320hp? I believe the STS used a different variant of the Northstar

Stupid question: What happened to the VR4 Galant You got? I dont see pics.

Yes, I had the 4.6L Northstar.
