So, I just upgraded my pc and and I want to buy a car game. I really loved Forza 4 on my 360, unfortunately I modded it to hell and got banned. (but hey,it runs linux now) Any suggestions on similar games?

I’m not looking for a subscription like iRacing, I just want to pay upfront and play whenever I want.

Also, the more cars, the better, it doesn’t have to have a customize option on them, I never really played with setups even in Forza, I don’t really have the time to learn them.

I’ve been out of the gaming business for so long I don’t even know where to start looking so I figured out I’ll ask you guys what do you play...

rFactor, it’s practically abandonware at this point so you can get it for free and there a heap of mods for whatever you want

... well if you’re looking for Forza on PC that game doesn’t exist. Assetto Corsa has a decent amount of cars and plenty of mods but of course quality varies massively. Project Cars’ car list is good if you like a variety of racing disciplines but if you just want road cars it is utter arse.

I would very much like to get a new game, would love a big online comunity. I played Simraceway, but it was frustrating with just 30 guys each night and at noon just 3 or 4...

I’m obsessed with DiRT Rally at the moment. They just dropped a new update yesterday too

If you want a sim, iRacing is pretty much the only way to go. Most others are arcade games. Do you want realism or quantity? There’s a tradeoff. My iRacing folder is hundreds of gigabytes for a few dozen tracks and a handful of cars. If they were to put the quantities that Gran Turismo, Forza, pCars, etc, they’d have to lower the quality. Quality is more than graphics. iRacing is all about the physics.

This.

Also, Richard Burns Rally is another good sim. Graphics aren’t anything stunning, but pretty solid physics.

Try Project Cars, or if you’re into rally the new Dirt Rally game is phenomenal. And it just updated with online multiplayer for the FIA World RX component.

I’ll second iRacing. It has some of the best organized racing out there.
