If the color is original, this ‘86 Corvette is 1 of only 4 (!) Corvettes that year that were produced with Copper Metallic! Its an easily forgettable color, but I think it looks cool. Not a bad price either. Would love to see it in person to see if its genuine.

Meh, I’d still give it a chance. They’re just a bit quirky, and aren’t exactly the hight of reliability (especially the OD units on the ‘84-’86s). I drove an ‘84 with one, not terrible to drive with. Obviously the ZF 6 spd. is way better, but I’d give it a chance.

Also, because of the 4+3, that means a Dana 44 out back!

Apparently the 4+3 is okay provided the transmission fluid gets changed and you take a few other things into consideration:

Not a fan of that colour though.

Oh wow. That is REALLY tempting. Time to go renew the Craigslist ad for my Buick.

Yeah, I would agree. I wouldn’t say its exactly a great trans, but it gets a lot more of a bad rep than it really deserves. I think its just that a lot of people really never think about servicing their trans. That, and you really can’t beat on a 4+3 as much as you can on other manuals (hard shifts, etc.).

I dunno, to each their own. I kinda like it. Not my favorite, but its not terrible. The obscurity is what really makes it cool.

DOOOOO IT. Join the C4 ‘Vette Clan!

I’d really like to see this in person though. Seems to be in pretty good knick as C4s go.

It’s a distinct possibility, but the Buick must sell first. No space or (more importantly) money until then.

4+3>6. Am I wrong here? And it’s more like 6-1 for this German stuff... 7>5!

Reliability and cost of parts are hard to deal with. Try to find a rebuild kit for the overdrive

Meh not really too bad; 1.5 quarts of conventional gear oil and 1.9 quarts of Dexron III for the overdrive per year plus a $3 filter every 10k miles makes them dead reliable, plenty going strong after 150k unrebuilt. Most don’t get there because owners simply ignore the transmission fluids, are oblivious to leaks at high miles, use synthetic fluids, don’t disengage the clutch when shifting into overdrive, and powershift them without paying attention to the external linkage or that they were in overdrive. There were two inherent problems early on with it in terms of reliability, both having to do with a couple of small parts: the annular bearing and thrust washer. Both were fixed by ‘86 and are easily changed in earlier cars.

A few companies rebuild the overdrives (including the people who rebuilt them for the Challenge cars back in ‘88) and most large corvette parts suppliers sell kits along with a short shift kit for $20. Most importantly, the whole setup is rebuildable by a Doug Nash experienced shop for under $2,000 vs $3,500 for the ZF6, can handle as much power as a blue tag ZF6 (the Callaway SledgeHammer did its 254 mph in 4th overdrive) and the beefed up, refined Super T10 is already a beefed up T10, a very solid transmission optional in plenty of 350+ hp cars during the 60s and even carried over to NASCAR for a time. They were pretty much doomed from the beginning by owner maintenance, a bearing, and a washer haha
