Actually need.
I was out on a casual bike ride and came across this.
It’s rare that you see blue XC90s, but this one was also a V8.
Definitely need it.

If you get one you can say your car has the engine from a Noble!

Yeah, although wasn't the engine developed for the XC90 first and put into the Noble second?

I believe so. The only way I know is from Top Gear, when they made fun of Hammond for it.

Yep! That is how I found out about it as well.

If I were ever forced to buy an SUV (and I would have to be forced) the XC is probably what I’d get. That or a Rangie. Because I never really need to be anywhere.

The Rangie fits perfectly into the NYC street scene. And I hear modern Raingies have come a long way in reliability.

Of course as long as I live here I won’t need a car, but you never know. And anything Land Rover is questionable, but I can handle it. I owned half a Lancia once. I can do anything.

As petty as is sounds, we did not buy a V8 because of the plasti-wood steering wheel hated it.
Made beautiful V8 Yamaha sounds though

No, the engine was first put in the Taurus SHO.
This was when Volvo was still part of Ford’s Premium Group

The only issue with owning Range Rovers in Manhattan is that they like to run over motorcycles when you sleep.

Ugh, there’s a kid at my school who drives a white V8 XC90 and I get the idea that she has no idea what it is, and that irritates me internally to no end...what’s worse is that she lives in my neighborhood so I have to see it all the way home until she blows past my house...

Story time: back when my father lived here in N.C, he traded his 2003 Volvo S60 T5 on one of these super rare (800 worldwide) 2006 XC90 Ocen Race Edtion’s. His was #94, and was the only one in North Carolina, for about six months. I loved that thing, with its very powerful Yamaha V8.
He traded It on a 2009 Volvo S60 2.5T, which he took out to Seattle with him (along with the Escalade stupid car...). I wish he still had the XC90 OC. It was so rare, and so cool. Actual fact, I have seen it many times since he sold it, and this is actually true, only in the Whole Foods parking lot.

Wait, I think this is an Ocean Race Edition! If you look at the side moulding, the small badge under it and the rims it all matches up!
The Whole Foods parking lot can be filled up with some interesting cars. :-)

If we are being honest, most XC90 V8 owners probably don’t know how awesome it is. Only the Volvo fanatics who drive them seem to care!
Does it have cloudy headlights?
Btw, I’m pretty sure this is an Ocean Race Edition, thanks to Jack Does Cars.

So I’m assuming you got a 6cyl XC90 then?

Durango, actually. Turbo-6 only had 3500# towing. The seats in the Volvo were to DIE for. maybe the best seats of all time. But 80 buttons on the dash board, the MOST sound system architecture that you cannot add nav to, the workings of the way back seat are impossible to figure out. Very Swedish in good and bad ways.
My wife wanted 3 rows in a smaller 3/4 scale package and the XV90 does that perfectly. The Durango is a very very well built Mercedes GL chassis and the features are clean and easy. UConnect is awesome. Towing is 2000# more than the even the V8 Volvo (boats are a big deal in my family). The Durango is bigger. It’s more like a 7/8 scale SUV, but you can’t go wrong with either pick.

The most recent generation Durango?
That’s not a bad SUV, but I prefer the Grand Cherokee. But the three row requirement makes the Grand Cherokee unacceptable. :-)

The current GC is the Mercedes ML chassis, suspension, electrical architecture...
The current Durango (my car) is the Mercedes GL.
Yes, they use Pentastar or HEMI engines and Chrysler transmissions, but way this car soaks up the interstate, you can tell it’s a Benz underneath.

Well, the GL is based off of the ML so indirectly it is a stretched ML. ;)
I have yet to be in a modern Durango, but they look pretty decent. One thing I'm not sure if with FCA vehicles yet is their long-term sturdiness.

Nope, the one at school is pristine, even wearing dealer plates which makes me suspect that the parents spoiled their child with the car as a present or something after just buying it...

Okay, because XC90s with cloudy headlights are something to be skeptical of. Never buy an XC90 with cloudy headlights! Or any car for that matter. :P
I’m excited to get a better look at all the cars at school. We switch buildings between 9th and 10th grade. I know there are a lot of 3 series wagons.

My best friend and I road tripped his V8 XC90 from Central NC to Portland, OR. It was lovely.

I can say that now!
My 07 Mercury Milan has a Duratec 30 VVT in it. the Noble M400 has a twin turbo’ed version of it.
