Bikes and flip flops are not a good combo. I've done that many times before.

I haven’t worn sandles or flip flops in years, thank goodness I’m not going to any time soon if at all.

On a scale of 1-10, how was the pain.

Actually not bad, maybe a 5 initially but after 30 seconds maybe a 2 or 3, it’s not near as bad as it looks.

Flip flops and bicycles don’t mix well. If you insist on open-toed shoes, get a pair of Tevas. They wouldn’t help in this situation, but they do have a lot less flop.

Sandals are a slightly better idea but mountain biking in sandals is a bad idea.

Step 1: stop wearing sandals

That reminds me of when I was a kid and went for a bike ride on some dirt trails with a younger neighbour. The neighbour often liked to walk and ride his bike barefoot. He has also had a bad habit of wanting to use his feet to stop instead of using his brakes.

(You may see where this is going)

So we’re riding along the trails and he follows me down one somewhat steep trail. I’m using my brakes to keep my speed in check.

He panicks and tries to use his feet... but can’t because of dirt and rocks and things.

He coasts past me at a decent clip. I tried to grab him, but I missed. I yelled at him to use his brakes and not his goddamn feet.

He didn’t listen.

At the bottom of the hill was a creek.

He ended up in the creek and got soaked head to toe.

We rode home.

On the way home, I got a flat tire.
