What bothers me is that Nissan doesn’t have a problem with it.

I asked a Nissan marketing guy at an auto show, if they’re thinking about bringing something like the old Silvia to market, and he said something like “Nahh, the Juke is valid enough as a sporty proposition, to make the need for a new Silvia, obsolete.”

It’s too bad. The days of high volume car-makers with multiple 2 door sports cars at different price points is dead. Especially with the current financial problems in Japan, although I suppose a lot of Nissan’s business decisions are dictated from France.

Here’s a question, would you take a new Silvia if it meant killing off the Z? Infiniti is already using the Mercedes 4 cyl turbo. Imagine that engine in a 2+2 body and maybe 100-200 lbs. less than Z’s curb weight. I think I would take that S16 over the current Z at least.

And there goes the last little speck of respect I had for Nissan. What the fuck kinda crack are they smoking?

Nissan is a corporation, not a person. Corporations only care about money, they couldn’t care less if people respect them.

Well, Nissan, for one. Only they don’t call them jokes, they call them Multi-Tiered Scalable Global Market Propositions.

I kinda understand Mitsubishi, they’re small and have no money for new models. But Nissan can afford halo models, since they’re making a lot more.

Good point there. But really, no brand should really have to resort to crossovers. If Mitsubishi made a new Evo they could base the new Lancer from that, and potentially drive up sales. If Nissan made a versatile RWD platform, then they could make a Z, IDX, and small sports sedan.

Sounds about right for Nissan these days.
