Where to start? Well let’s start with the bad stuff. The recovery operation began today with a large crane being brought in to lift the wreckage from the trees, Sussex Police stated this morning that up to 20 may have died, BBC news states that no more bodies were found after lifting the wreckage, this may he the case but there is still searching to do.
A fourth victim has been named as Maurice Abrahams, a 76 year old chauffeur whose Daimler was struck by the aircraft whilst he was on route to pick up a bridal party. I have previously released the names of other known victims !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . The Pilot is in a medically induced coma and his condition is still described as critical.
In a touching tribute many members of the public including local Football teams have laid flowers and the old Tollbridge in Shoreham, as close to the site of the crash as possible, apt considering the 19th centry Tollbridge was the A27 crossing over the river up until 1972. I went down there myself to lay some flowers and pay my respects.
Many TV crews were present but the seemed to respect that people wanted to have a moment with their thoughts on the bridge. Looking north from the bridge is the newer A27 bridge with many emergency vehicles and those of people involved in the search and clean up process.
The response from the local community has been of solidarity and helping each other. The towns Facebook page has been instrumental in providing traffic reports, helping people stranded at the airshow and advising on when press conferences are taking place whilst local cab companies have been taking people to collect their vehicles from airport for free (due to not being able to get their vehicles out on saturday). Local Councillor Emma Evans has been instrumental in keeping the community informed and appears to be the only member of the council liasing with the public, she has been doing an amazing job.
With all the tragedy of the weekend and how raw it still is, I can only hope they don’t find any more victims and that the details come out soon so that the correct steps can be taken to ensure this tragedy doesn’t happen again.

Absolutely terrible. I hope the death toll doesn’t increase further. Although it is nice to see the events have brought out the best in the community, a crumb of comfort for those in the area I’m sure.

I hope so too, there’s a few people causing upset but I decided not to include those feelings in the main post. A local paper used a particularly graphic picture for their front page with a real shitty headline and they have been bombarded with complaints. The rest is just facebook drama of people being selfish and rude for attention.

Really well written article and I have to say everything you have written on this has been first class. I was filled with dread when I heard about this as a colleague had talked about going down last week so this was far to close to home for me.
Fingers crossed the toll doesn’t rise as they continue to ‘clear up’

Terrible. Thanks for your updates through the weekend.
The story finally made it into US news media this morning. The story I heard on NPR described calls to ban aerobatics anywhere near populated areas in response, as I understand that maneuvers over the spectator areas were already prohibited. That would put paid to a large number of airshows, but I’m not sure what the correct response is. Unless the pilot regains consciousness and has full recollection, I don’t know how much use the investigation will be in determining a course of action.
Sorry for the loss and trauma to your town, but I’m glad to see the community coming together to heal.

Thank you, I’m definitely not a writer with my C in GCSE English but I’ve been trying to keep my feelings seperation and also be sensitive to not post graphic things directly, to try and maintain some sort of professionalism. It’s caused travel chaos but I don’t care, there is a reason for the closure and I’m thankful to not have lost anyone.

I thought it’s the least I could do as possibly the only opponaut in the direct vicinity. I think with these things you will always get people calling for bans, it’s unlikely to happen. It’s difficult to tell what will happen until the investigation is complete.

It’s very saddening to hear that more people have been found dead. I’m not sure what else to say until they begin to figure out why it all happened.

They are supposed to be releasing more information about the victims over the next day or so, this is the first time there has been any public (not pilot) fatalities at a British Airshow since 1952 when 31 died at Farnborough.

No need for those kind of people, hopefully they’ll be ignored so they stop clamouring for attention.

The daily fail is my source of anger today, a money grabber who sold her “story” to them spoke extremely graphically of the accident saying it was raining blood and that she watched people die etc. and then they get so called RAF spokesman who says The Red Arrows don’t do the Shoreham airshow because it’s too densely populated and dangerous, which is bullshit, for I, a local resident have seen them perform there multiple times.
