No razorblades, no mess, just steam. Figured Oppo would like to see:
Pick up a wallpaper steamer or a carpet cleaner from your local hardware store if you can. I’ll be doing that next time; this was SKETCHY. But the technique itself was great.

I bought a MN12 Thunderbird a few years ago that had been tinted by a previous owner. But the rear window film was already peeled off, leaving behind a window full of hazy residue, impossible to see through.
Immediately after purchase I drove it home and spent over an hour removing it with a razor blade and citrus-based cleaner to dissolve the adhesive. I had to be especially careful around the defroster lines. Some rubbing alcohol cleaned up the greasy citrus, and I could finally see!
Steam would have been a good idea if the film had still been attached.

Citrus-based cleaner? I’ll keep that in mind in case I have any issues with the remaining adhesive.

The acidity helps break down the glue. But it leaves a greasy residue that rubbing alcohol can eliminate. Killer combo.

I just peel old tint off with my fingernails. I’m not very popular.

I think MCM actually used your technique in their video on tinting. It’s a lot cheaper than renting anything.

I can attest to the functionality of a dedicated steam machine to remove tint. Using an iron is just asking for more burns and pain than steaming could lead to. If one is lucky, most of the adhesive comes off with the tint film. If not, then I recommend acetone, odorless mineral spirits, Goo-Off, or similar anti-adhesive/sticky cleaners, carefully applied on a small towel or pad to minimize the chance of dropping or transfer to anything on, around, or near the glass, like door plastics.

I don’t know why, but I was legit waiting for him to smash the window. Oh Youtube, you have warped my brain.
