I’m trying to locate the neutral/park/reverse switch on our 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan 4.0l with a 62te 6 speed transmission. Long story short it often wont start unless you play with it between park and neutral. I’ve found some posts out there that talk about having it replaced to correct the issue. I’ve found pics of what it should look like but for the life of me I cant locate it on the trans anywhere.. One thousand thanks.

Seems to be a common problem according to this Edmunds forum page . I think the likeliest cause is the neutral safety switch a.k.a. transmission range sensor.

Looks like it might be inside the trans. Check out the 2nd answer in the link

According to Alldata, it’s above the valve body inside the trans. Switch is around $50 + 3.5-4hrs labor. They call it the “Transmission Range Sensor”.

This is a bit of back yard hackery, but if the wires out of the neutral safety switch are accessible, just cut em and bypass the switch entirely. The switch isn’t really even necessary in an automatic since the starter can’t spin the converter fast enough to move the car.

Do appreciate the hack but I’m pretty sure in this case it does more than just detect neutral and it’s my wife’s kid hauler so going to keep it legit even if it cost a bunch.
