Ugh. I have such mixed opinions about this flick. I think Damon portraying the evil astronaut in Interstellar ruins him being a good astronaut in The Martian, for me.
Also: “I’m going to have to science the shit out of this”. Yuck. I would’ve changed the channel if this were airing on TV.
And: “In your face Neil Armstrong”. No. Just no. Not ok. I don’t care what the context is for this statement. *I bet it isn’t in the novel, either. Not ok. Not ok to talk down to Neil Armstrong.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

See, when it’s from a source material that is already available viewers know what is in the movie. Are there spoilers in this? Yea, if you’ve read the book.
I do think they show a bit too much (mostly pathfinder) but overall it doesn’t give much away. Bad shit happens to the crew on Mars, a man gets left behind, his crew wants to save him while he works to stay alive. That’s really all the trailer says if you haven’t read the book.
Enders Game was a good example of this: the trailer showed a planet being blown up. If you’d read the book you’d know that was the big final ‘Ender kills an entire species’ moment, but if you hadn't read the book you wouldn't know that a planet blowing up was the finale.

Science the shit out of it and in your face Neil Armstrong both come straight from the book. Science the shit out of it is misplaced in the trailer, the delivery in the book is hysterical and I imagine the movie will get it right

Yikes. Were those lines actually in the book? I was really hoping they weren't. I've heard wonderful things about the novel.

Don’t judge it based on those lines. It’s a FANTASTIC book. I’ve read it once and listened to the audiobook twice.
I honestly don’t remember the context of the Neil Armstrong line, but it had something to do with ‘one upping’ him on Mars. It was funny.
