I drive a 67 VW Bug. And like many 48 year old cars it needs some work. I finally sacked up and ordered some parts I needed to give it a facelift. As I type, boxes of parts are shipping from JBugs and Wolfsburg West and they are converging on my compound in Northern Virginia. They include:
1. New, correct L456 fender beading
2. Running boards
3. Dash bulbs
4. Accelerator cable repair kit
5. Speakers, speaker tray, install kit
6. Fuse box cover (48 years without one, probably time to add it)
7. L456 automotive paint
8. There’s more but I forgot
9. Oh yeah, I’m going to take it in to my VW wizard and have him fix/replace the pressure plate in my clutch. I can do it but the time it would take me is worth having him do it.
Essentially, I’ll be removing the running boards and fenders, addressing the bubbling paint, fixing the rust, painting the repaired sections, bolting the fenders and running boards back on the car, replacing dead bulbs on the dash, fixing the accelerator and trying to remember what else I need to fix.
This whole process is going to be an interesting one. Some of it is out of my comfort zone (body work) but I am looking forward to the challenge.

I will. I have been asked to do the same thing on the 67 Beetle forum I am a member of. I have still not fully sacked up cause I am avoiding rehabbing the sunroof. Maybe this project will help the confidence level.

Hardest thing about the roof is nailing the adjustment so it seals properly and doesn’t mar the paint. The roof contour makes it a little tricky. Looking forward to progress reports!
