We’re back in Europe for this week’s Used Car Face Off with three Craigslist beauties that have fallen a bit since their apogee in the 80s and 90s...all are performance four seaters, with two based off of the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! platform while the other is just weird...which is right for you? Here we have what seems to be a very clean Alfa 164S with the gorgeous V6 and a manual transmission. It apparently has a few paint issues but seems to be owned by someone who knows what they’re doing and appreciates the car, and it is said to have been well maintained mechanically. Is it really worth $4K though?

Here we have a just as nice Saab 9000 also from the Type Four platform. This one is slightly more practical, however, as a hatch and seems to also be owned by a Saab family who knows what they’re doing. A few spots of body rust are concerning but the turbo 4 and stick shift will likely make you forget that very quickly...but for $3000?

Ah, who am I kidding...this is Oppo after all...post a rare 90’s French car and everyone goes crazy...still, I am part of that group and am amazed that this gem of a Mi16 is going for only $1500...I have heard that it is slower than the other two, with 90’s French reliability nonexistent (but really, Alfas and Saabs aren’t renowned for reliability either...) but is that going to distract from the manual transmission and clean appearance?

As a previous owner of both a 9000 and a 164-S and having driven a Pug just like that a few times its no contest. Alfa. Alfa. Alfa. (though the Pug’s low price is tempting...) The 164 is one of the best sorted FWD Alfas of all time... Mine had over 400k miles when we parted ways, and that 12v v6 with the lumpy S cam is the most characterful engine this side of a carbureted Ferrari V12.

This is unbelievably hard, and I hate you. However, I’d have to take the Alfa.

Ahaha, I thought it would be easier if there was a greater difference in price, e.g. the $4K Alfa vs the $1.5K Pug, but I guess not...
