This was the event I’ve been looking forward to all year long. Thankfully with my prior racing experience I was able to skip HPDE and go straight into Time Trials at my hometown track “Motorsports Park Hastings”. Competition was a little bare for my class, just a Mazdaspeed3 and an S2000.
Anyways, Saturday was hot, continued to have overheating issues with the car. This winter will be “Operation: Keep Oil and Coolant temps down” for my car. About to just make 127 speed holes in my bumper. As far as racing goes I was able to get lap times to stay on top of my class but not nearly where I should be. It continues to be frustrating only being able to make one hot lap and having to let up and ride around the course for awhile waiting for the car to cool down. I typically got 2 hot laps in each session all weekend. Never could get my rhythm going.
Sunday was more of the same, obviously I ran my fastest lap of the weekend while it was nice and cool in the morning but still kept overheating.
Still got plenty of points left where I can modify the car more while staying in my class (goodbye interior?). But dammit I need to figure my cooling issues out.
here’s a video of my morning run, you’ll notice after the exit of turn 2 after I make my fast lap that I get no boost. This is what happened all weekend.
Also, probably need more tire.

How are you monitoring temps? Does FoSt show water and oil? What are you temps looking like? The 1’er doesn’t go into limp mode until water hits 235 or oil above 300 (the gauge goes to 340). I’m also working on cooling. The factory oil cooler just isn’t enough. Going big, alum aftermarket rad and taking it from there.

Are you familiar with roadkill?

I use the Cobb AP3 to monitor my temps. So far limp mode happens when my cooling temp it’s 250. Oil temp has gotten up to 270 but it seems to be the coolant temp causing it.
There is no aftermarket radiator available yet for the ST but Mishimoto is saying they might have one by next month. Had an oil cooler installed the week prior but doesn't help much if coolant temps are still skyrocketing.

Yeah, speaking generally water cools the motor, oil lubricates it.
Those coolant temps are definitely as issue. I felt uncomfortable seeing mine go over 230. What oil are you running? I’ve noticed that thicker oil, although more stable under high heat, causes slightly higher running temperatures on track.

I run Amsoil 5w40. It’s a concern/issue for a lot of people who take their ST to the track.
