Belt broke and made my 15 commute a 1 and half commute.
Luckily it happened close to were I live and my roommates have reliable cars that can help mine out. Only ended up costing 20-some bucks, but I guess I should’ve replaced it before I hit 143k miles.
Why in the world do I keep procrastinating looking for a new job? I need more monies so I can get new things.

Note to self, timing belt in the Camry now has 150,000 miles on it. KEEP ‘ER GOIN’.

Doing it at a leisurely pace in your own driveway sounds a lot more enjoyable than a 7/11 parking lot. Probably a good idea.

That hood really goes up. How long is that strut?

So...which belt?

Its normal length but its in sleeve that has 2 holes. Open the hood like normal then pull the sleeve all the way to the end of the strut, its a Mercedes thing. This crap video kinda covers it:

Haha, I’m at 97k, no squeaks or anything, but I’d rather replace it BEFORE theres a problem giving belts are cheap. maybe at my 100k maintenance.

I like it, wish my vehicles were that way. I’m sure it helps in a dimly lit garage.

Mine has cracks in it. But since its a PITA to replace, and non-interference, I’m just gonna drive it till it snaps.

Sure does, and its just nice to never have the hood in your way. Takes 2 more seconds and you don't have to think about it again.

I was watching How Its Made and learnt that NASCAR motors have belt driven cams. TMYK.
I thought they were chains like pretty much ALL cam in block V8s.

Probably due to the decrease in mass with the belt, and it only really has to last for a few hours before it gets rebuilt, right?

They said the materials in the belt are more flexible and stronger than steel, so I dunno.

Altho my old civic did one better. The hood had flown open... a few times... so the corners were bent up so much you just lift the hood open and let it lay on the windshield.
