That doesn’t look like any Miura I’ve ever seen. And, Miura production stopped in ‘73. What’s this guy trying to pull?

I think Lamborghini finally is ready for a hybrid and this is only a testing mule. Running on 77 volts probably.

Kinja'd!!!1

Pretty sneaky, but they are giving a big clue with that license plate. Interesting that Lambo would resurrect the Miura name for a hybrid. I don’t think they’ve ever reused an old name.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
08/24/2015 at 13:26

Kinja'd!!!1

That’s an interesting thought. I think you’re right, Lamborghini never re-used a name! Even the redesigned Silhouette got another name. Which I have as a Kyosho 1/64 come to think of it ;-)

I never said Miura would be the name for that new hybrid though...

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
08/25/2015 at 04:17

Kinja'd!!!1

Ah, sounds like a subject for Spaghetti Sunday. The Silhouette kind of had 3 names, didn’t it? The Jalpa and Urraco were the same car, right?

So, Miura is just a code name? That’s a clever way to throw us off the scent.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
08/25/2015 at 08:26

Kinja'd!!!0

Yep, Urraco/Silhouette/Jalpa all had the same background. It will pass eventually on Spaghetti Sunday . Which really needs more followers, I was the only one this weekend!

Yep, projectname ‘Miura’. Lamborghini has stopped with the bullfighting names so we can expect a Spanish word expressing anger, ferocious fighting or another masculine aspect of life. Or, if we follow the Huracan, it will just be something like Tormenta.

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
08/25/2015 at 15:36

Kinja'd!!!1

It’ll catch on eventually. Too many great Italian cars to do.

Holy cow, Tormenta is an f’ing epic name for a Lamborghini. You should contact their marketing department immediately. Now I’m really interested in this car. If I see the mule parked on my street again, I’ll try and find the driver. They do do a lot of testing around L.A. I see camouflaged cars all the time with their weird devices stuck to them.

About cars to do on LaLD: I got a request to do the Le Car Van!

I won’t need to contact Lamborghini anymore: Torch probably did that for us already. But it is a great name now you’re mentioning it. What really strange is is the use of Spanish names for these Italian beasts. With one exception: The Countach!

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
08/26/2015 at 03:29

Kinja'd!!!1

I’ve been waiting for that one. I guess it takes someone else to request it, huh?

Tomorrow’s question of the day will be best names for new Lamborghinis with that as the example.

I guess when you’re going to name your cars after bulls, Spanish is pretty much the only option. I’ve always been amused by Hyundai using names like “Sonata.”

08/26/2015 at 03:58

Kinja'd!!!1

Nope, I was waiting for you to do a well researched piece on the Van or Heuliez, remember? Should I wait for that to happen?

Hahahaha, I wouldn’t be surprised. Tormenta is awesome. I think we need a plugin for our software with that name. CPMPlanning, now with additional CPMTormenta! Wouldn’t know what it’s supposed to do, probably delete all or something.

I’ll stick to the Fiat Croma.

Kinja'd!!!1

Oooh, yeah. I should do that Heuliez piece. Well, don’t wait for me now that you have a request. I haven’t done my Heuliez research, yet, so you can get it started for me.

“Would you like to install Tormenta?” would be a scary thing to see.

What the hell is that stuff? Some kind of lard or margarine?

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
08/26/2015 at 08:48

Kinja'd!!!1

“ Tormenta. For her pleasure. ” I can see that add campaign starting already.

Yeah, some sort of butter to bake your meat in. And that stuff was on the market over here before Fiat introduced their Croma over here. So that was a campaign doomed for failure... And the reason many brands stick to numbers for their model-range. Although that’s not flawless as well when you think of the Alfa Romeo 164.

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
08/26/2015 at 16:21

Kinja'd!!!1

You won’t see a Chinese drive one. The number ‘164’, , in Chinese has a second meaning like ‘all the way to death’. That’s why it was renamed to ‘168’ on Malaysian and HK markets (Chinese didn’t get Alfa’s back then I suppose).

08/27/2015 at 01:07

Oh, right. I think I remember reading about that. Funny. I wonder what was wrong 165, 6, and 7. Maybe 8 is a lucky number.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
08/27/2015 at 04:16

Kinja'd!!!1

I’m not sure what was wrong with the 5,6 or 7. I’m sure of what 168 () meant though: “all the way to prosperity”.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
08/28/2015 at 04:25

Kinja'd!!!2

Maybe it didn’t become more popular because back then the average income of the Chinese household was one bucket of rice each month. That should have least have something to do with this.

I have no Chinese clients, nor do I speak the language. I just have the habit of looking up stuff that interests me. And remembering the most trivial facts of those for life.

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
08/28/2015 at 15:52

Yeah, I guess their car market wasn’t very big in those days. I think they’re back in China now. I wonder how they’re doing.

With that Shanghai Crash of last week they probably are not doing well right now either. Not even sure if Alfa is on the Chinese market?

Kinja'd!!!1

I read something about a Fiat-Chrysler partnership with Chery to bring Alfas to China, but maybe it never happened. Probably won’t happen now if it didn’t.

I guess that’s one advantage to the number of comments we generate. We don’t give Torch a chance to do anything but read them.

I guess the Chery thing didn’t work out which isn’t a surprise. I haven’t seen them here, yet, and I think officially the 4C is available in the U.S. now. It’ll be interesting to see if they can break through here. Fiat is not exactly selling like hotcakes. I see plenty of 500’s, but that’s just Los Angeles. I think in other places they’ve not really made much of a dent.

That new Giulia they just “introduced” is the first Alfa in years I can appreciate. Of course, the 4C an 8C as well but these are off-limits right now. That Giulia is a huge contender for replacing my V60 in 2 or 3 years.

Only the 500 and Panda are great sellers over here. There isn’t much in their line-up anyway. The rebadged Lancias you never walk into.

The Torino museum had a mock up of the 4C, it’s really a great looking car. Mid-engined designs have come a long way...

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
08/31/2015 at 00:29

Kinja'd!!!1

I think they should just bring the Panda here. It might sell better than the 500, and definitely the 500L which no one is interested in. The Panda’s a versatile little car.

The 4C is really pretty. I saw one a year ago and it’s stunning. It kind of feels like an evolution of the Elise design-wise.

I’ve been thinking about getting a 1st gen Steyer-Panda 4x4 and putting a modern 1.3 JTD diesel in it. That should be awesome.

I totally agree on those evolution-feelings of that Elise!

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, that’s an epic Panda. They have that 500X thing now, so they wouldn’t bring the Cross version over, but I think it’d sell better.

That would be an awesome little car. I love those Steyr-Puch Pandas. They must be hilarious to drive offroad. They weigh nothing. A new diesel would make it a little monster.

Add a sliding door to that Steyer-Puch Panda and you’re golden! It really needs that plain standard steelies too.

Didn’t the Governator drive one of those?

Arnold probably does have a Pinzgauer. I’ve driven a Halflinger through a forest in Georgia. It was really fun. That little thing will go anywhere. I actually do have video footage of that somewhere. Steyr-Puch is an interesting company to do. I’m actually working an another Austrian, the Felber.

Not to be confused with the Swiss coachbuilder Felber that made Ferrari shooting breaks.

Awesome! That thing looks like a train, plane and microcar all in one! And with such a wide track it’s bound to have decent roadholding.

Apparently the handling was epic. They were pretty successful in hillclimbs going against motorcycles with sidecars. And they were way ahead of their time with that a-pillar window.

Oh man. That footage is great! Is that your wife doing the filming and laughing? I love that she’s so entertained. What an awesome road. The bit with Walk Hard on the radio cracked me up. Perfect soundtrack with the beautiful engine noise.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
09/02/2015 at 17:13

Kinja'd!!!1

The more I look at it, the better that Felber gets! How wide is it’s track anyway?

Haha, indeed it is my lovely wife having fun. Would you actually believe that Z4 was the car she learned driving in? She got her license like 5 years ago, giving nothing about cars and wanted to get her own beige car. But I had that Z4 in my small collection so I just told her to take that one. She, not knowing that was some kind of special car (“It only has two seats?”), used it to go to work and all the students and colleagues were impressed. But she only found that out months after starting to drive it.

She still misses it. And she’s one of the hardest girls driving shotgun with me to get frightened by my driving.

Did you hear Walk Hard ending just at the moment I stopped the car? THAT’S TIMING!

It’s 59 inches between the wheels and 49 inches high. I’ve never been in one, but it must be hilarious.

That’s a great story. After that, every other car must be a disappointment. What does she drive now?

The timing was perfect. I thought you had that planned.

Can’t wait on that Felber piece. Great pictures as well!

She drives a Volvo V50 T5 AWD now. We needed a more spacious car with the kid at hand. And I was still driving that Abt VW Polo GTI so it better be a wagon. With power. And my brother worked at Volvo back then so...

No such thing as coincidence!

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
09/04/2015 at 01:22

Kinja'd!!!1

It was front paged. I didn’t write my usual novel this time.

It’s nice that you guys actually buy wagons instead of SUV’s like in America. That’s a nice car to get a deal with. And, it sounds like it worked out better than my dad’s old Volvo wagon he got from the president of Volvo USA.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
09/04/2015 at 16:26

Kinja'd!!!1

Ah, I’ll check it out in a minute!

The SUV’s were popular for a while, the first Touareg/Q7 were pretty popular. But that’s somewhat over. My brother works at a VW/Audi/Skoda dealership now, the latest Q7 introduction event hosted a total of one famlily. All day.

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
09/05/2015 at 01:21

Kinja'd!!!1

Wow, that’s funny. Who needs an Audi SUV anyway? Although I’m surprised my father hasn’t gotten one. The SUV thing is one fad that just won’t die here. Americans like big things. That will never go away.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
09/05/2015 at 09:06

Kinja'd!!!1

I don’t. That first Q7 was too big. I like the Q5 though. And that Touareg wasn’t that bad either. For cruising those are amazingly capable, I really slow down to slightly over 100km/h on the Highway in those.

Isn’t even America a bit changing? You’re getting the Mini and the FIAT 500 nowadays!

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
09/06/2015 at 14:55

Kinja'd!!!1

Well, the Mini has done well. The Fiat less so. I guess people are buying crossovers more now, but they still sell tons of SUV’s. Americans like looking down on people, so they want to drive something with height.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
09/06/2015 at 16:13

Kinja'd!!!1

I was under the impression that FIAT 500 sold well over there but you’re the expert on that one. It’s probably not just that looking down. Most of you Americans weigh over 150kgs so you need a big ass SUV to even be able to sit in a car anyway. At least: That’s what we’re taught over here ;-)

So you can imagine my surprise when I saw that hamster from Kia.

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
09/07/2015 at 01:44

Kinja'd!!!0

The 500 has done ok, but nearly as well as the Mini. I see a lot in L.A., but in middle America, I’m sure they don’t sell too many. That’s where all the big Americans are. They don’t think they can fit in one, as you rightly point out. They don’t need pickups for work, they need them for hauling dinner.

Well, again, I’m in L.A. where the women actually eat like hamsters.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
09/07/2015 at 07:07

Kinja'd!!!1

That Mini is an epic success in my neighborhood. All the women seem to drive one. That’s the reason we’re probably not getting a Mini Cooper S Cabrio, although I’d like to get one. Mrs. Jobjoris want RWD (!!!).

Speaking of L.A.-Women: what’s happening in your life with those right now? Or would you rather discuss that the Doors album?

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
09/08/2015 at 01:02

Kinja'd!!!1

Ah, the Mrs. really is a Jalop. I don’t mind the new Mini, but it doesn’t excite me particularly. They’re popular with women here, too, but not exclusively. I think they buy more of the cabrios than men do, though.

That’s not my favorite Doors album, but I do find it amusing. Good hits, but those other songs are hilarious. I don’t really know any available L.A. women at the moment, but they’re out there.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
09/08/2015 at 03:51

She is. You rarely see guys driving Minis over here. If they do they most of the time have borrowed their spouse’s car. Because it’s a fun car. I leased one (a Cooper 1.6d) for a short while when my Mercedes was stolen.

Best songs of the Doors to me are People are Strange , Touch me and The End . But Riders on the Storm on L.A. Woman is epic as well come to think of it. I went to see Jim’s grave in Paris a couple of years ago. That was kind of a let down.

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris

Kinja'd!!!1

There was a very good Doors documentary from a few years ago that I really enjoyed. I think it was called When You’re Strange. It didn’t say anything new, but the footage of them was terrific. I used to love them when I was in high school, but then didn’t listen to them for a long time until I saw that movie. Although, I do love that Val Kilmer film, but mostly for comedic reasons.

I went to the grave, too. It really wasn’t particularly exciting. It’s a pretty interesting cemetery, though.

Haha, the Kilmer-piece. He actually looks a lot like Jim. Best part is when Meg Ryan responds to an interviewer what part she has in the entourage and she just responds ‘Ornament’. Or am I mixing up stuff?

Almost Famous was great. One of the best rock and roll movies because it didn’t have to try and tell a true story. It just got the vibe of that era and what it’s like to be a rock star right. Spinal Tap is probably the greatest one. A lot of truth in its ridiculousness. Did you ever see the documentary Anvil: The Story of Anvil ?
