The Napier Bentley is essentially the world’s largest, noisiest and most dangerous smoke machine. It is also a staple of the VSCC.
Most importantly, it’s by far and away my favourite racing car - and it will forever be that way.

The Railton is the one the everyone knows. The Bentley is sort of its unrefined, slightly psychotic twin.

The Bentley is a replica. The Railton is the real deal.

It doesn’t make the Bentley a less impressive vehicle. The Railton has history, this has absolutely zero refinement and a sense of humour. Set 1 is the VSCC party piece - it’s the same reason I’ll choose a Gnat over something like a T35B... something truly insane that captivates the fans will always win over for me.

I do not see a car engulfed in a white plume. ;)
Chris usually keeps off the throttle for most races, so I’ll say the S76 definitely takes the engine smoke award.

It’s actually a really hard thing to explain unless you sort of spend time with every car. Each one has an interesting history, and seeing a famous car run is an incredible sight, but if a car and driver put on a show, you have to say they have the better package. If it was Pebble Beach, the Railton would win hands down. At a race meeting, something that’s equally as inspiring to watch as it is berserk will win over a car with deeper history. It’s like Premier Cru showed this year - you’d think two Type 35s would be the thing to be remembered in the race, but it was the three ERAs who were dicing for the lead and lapping the Bugattis that stole the show.

500cc F3 was probably the very last time pretty much anyone could build something from scratch and be competitive. Innovation drove motorsport, but now it takes a brave manufacturer to make something radical. I still think it should be the norm to see ingenuity and creativity in designs.

I dont think an era of cars have been more space ship like in comparison to their road going rivals than the pre war stuff, both circuit and landspeed cars. some of the stuff at Goodwood was epic, like ‘Babs’, the Darraq etc. imagine these being the first cars you ever saw, at 120/130mph on a near vertical banking, how incredible must that have been,
