To all three of you who were waiting to see what the wheels and tires would look like, here it is. I think the color looks fucking awful. I’m a can of red and grey paint away from making this thing look like it should be on the set of Jurassic Park. It honestly looks like a truck. I need silver paint. Thought grey would look cool, but no, nooooppppeee. Like communism, it seemed like a better idea on paper. Also need to get better wheel spacers. I bought the cheap ones that (now I know) are literally impossible to align properly on the wheel. So, I’ll return them and spend twice as much on some quality billet ones that are only for 4x100, not all the 4xs. Silly me. Time to get out the sand paper and buy some more paint.
The good news is that the tires are soooooo much better. Grip city. Seriously. I took some corners I drive regularly and went a little harder. I think it’s time for that stiff rear sway bar. Tried to spin the tires, which was easy with the old 175s. NOPE :.( Those days are long gone . . . unless . . . MOAR POWAHHH. I even stomped on the brakes to see if they would lock up. NOPE. Stock 1970s breaks with some modern rubber isn’t a bad formula. Though I will be upgrading those before adding more power.
Note: the rear wheels don’t have spacers on because it would be impossible to align them to the drums. Used some masking tape on the fronts, mounted the wheels, then peeled it off. That is not how those should work.
Whoops, crappy photo

So you wasted a bunch of time on painting them and a bunch of money on universal spacers?

project cars. sometimes its just two steps forward, one step back.
but congrats on giving it all a go.

Those look great! Now get them BMW centercaps on them.

Had the fronts on, but due to the lack of spacer in the rear, it didn’t fit. I’m still going to paint them silver. Don’t like the look. Might look worse in person.

Ohh I’m going to enjoy the future of this online relationship, LOL
Yah, I done goofed. Also, I don’t understand what the point of universal spacers are if they can’t be aligned properly

Well, besides the cost of paint and the time to mask everything, I don’t mind. Sanding and painting aren’t too bad.

Ah, I see. Still nice though.

Doesn’t look half bad to me. The gray might look better on my red car.

Very nice, even if you want to redo them. Also, I really like the roof rack.
![]() 08/20/2015 at 18:13 |

That’s a definite. Thought of this car when I picked the color.
I think with the roof rack, cute amber fog lights, and industrial looking wheels, my car looks like it’s having an identity crisis. Love to see the new width from the front and rear though.

Thanks. Don’t worry, I’ll mess with these things till I’m happy with them.

Man, you’re in a mood today!

I’ve never seen metallic paint look good. Id like to see what you come up with. Perhaps some dip?

Is that Rustoleum Grey?

Thanks. There’s a story with the rack. I bought the quick-n-easy clips thinking I would modify them. When I got them a few months ago I cut up some wood railing and it worked better than I thought. Anyway, went to my friend’s metal shop thinking we would modify them. Nope, we’re working on a custom rack. Almost done. Don’t have recent pictures, but I do have this one.
We’ve done a lot of work to it since this. But, it’s still not near completion.

No dip. My old wheels looked nice it was a subdued metallic silver. I think I’ll see what metallic silver with matte clear will look like. Or try and get something brighter, but not flashy.

I held on to a set of 15” Scion steelies for over a year because he kept promising to buy them. Then he got a set off his local CL instead.

I was thinking of the plasti dip stuff. Check out the wheels here:

Ooh, that does look nice. I’ve had gray wheels in mine since seeing a Guards Red 911RSR replica with gray Fuchs. It definitely does look better with the wheels pushed out a bit.

I thought it looked familiar. Better suited to work vans and F150s.
Here’s a tip my dad showed me recently.
Rustoleum “metallic” Chrome (AKA Tijuana Chrome) and a Clear coat ends up looking pretty sanitary.
An odd pic but it’s all I could find right now. Ignore the Blue that’s a different paint all together.

A white car is definitely a hard colour to try and match wheels to. I like the steelies though, perhaps if you found some chrome beauty rings it would make it look more to your liking?
The car looks great! I’ve always liked 2002s. White steelies also look nice on white cars in my humble opinion.

I’m going with 8mm spacers. They are not on the rears, so they look tucked in. I’d really like a 10mm, but that might require new studs, so not happening.

That looks really nice. Blue looks nice too.

I’m trying to make the car look less like a granny’s car, hence the utilitarian color choice. I think I’ll tone it down with a lighter silver metallic. White would be nice, but the car is off white and I don’t know if I could live with it.
![]() 08/20/2015 at 18:58 |

Oh yeah, off white and white definitely don’t mix. Good luck!

Those wheels can look great, but you need the center cap and chrome ring. Theres a 2002 for sale by me with that combo and it looks great.
![]() 08/20/2015 at 19:29 |
|
I have the center caps, just need the right spacers to make them fit on the rear. Have a photo?

It would look less like a truck if you lowered the shit out of it ;)
I do very much like the silver though. There are some silver Alfa steelies where I work. I’ll try to remember to take a picture of them tomorrow.

The wheels on this car have them. In hindsight, I see they are not the same as yours.

Go with the Motorsport red or blue. Winner!

You’re right. This car NEEDS blue wheels

as failures go, not liking the colour of painted wheels is a pretty nice one. “easy” to rectify, and it’s not keeping you from driving it in the mean time. Its not say, an incorrectly ordered carburetor
![]() 08/21/2015 at 10:35 |
|
Haha, it’s lowered, just looks odd because the rear wheels are stuffed in due to the lack of a spacer. The correct spacers and some spray paint and this thing will be fine.
![]() 08/21/2015 at 10:57 |
|
Oh I know. Not up shit’s creek. I hope I never order the wrong carb. I’d be the one to take everything apart then find out.
![]() 08/21/2015 at 11:00 |
|
I’ve done that with brakes. took it all apart, held the new brake rotor up... no fit... and no car to get me to the auto parts store to resolve the issue. I recall just sitting there staring at the problem for like 20 minutes.
![]() 08/21/2015 at 17:54 |
|
Ahaha. I’m just messing with you. These little cars look like they’re meant to go off-roading stock. It’ll look mint with a spacer.
These are the Alfa steelies, powder coated in a deep silver. I feel like they’d look pretty badass on your car, and I’m sure you could find a similar enough paint.

Those look nice. 15s? Also, take a look .
![]() 08/22/2015 at 09:12 |

Yup. 15s. 4x104 unfortunately, otherwise I might have stolen them.

The gunmetal grey is very cool vs the white body.
been very tempted to do this to a spare set of steelies I have to match the body. (not my photo,)

I didn’t like the color, so I repainted them again.
