Welcome to Generation Gap where we ask you about your favorite generation of a certain multi-generational car nameplate. Then, explain why your choice is right to the rest of us uneducated folks.
Since we’ve been having way too many import cars on Generation Gap for the past few weeks, now is the time to enter an American multi-generational vehicle. This one is iconic, though probably for reasons that are more know to law enforcement than to civilians...yep, it’s the good ‘ol Chevy Caprice, originally a very American body on frame land barge eventually moving to the new, Zeta platform, Police only (in America) cruisers...the question though is: Which one is right for you?
The options:
First Generation [1966 - 1970] and facelift
Second Generation [1971 - 1976] and facelift
Third Generation [1977 - 1990] and facelift
Fourth Generation [1991 - 1996]
Fifth Generation aka Holden Statesmen [1999 - 2006] and facelift (also known as the “WTF GM?” period...also, interesting story: these were almost imported to the States as police cruisers before Holden was stopped by GM headquarters from carrying out the deal...)
Sixth Generation/Holden Caprice [2006 - Present] and Middle East variant
I myself would go with a 4th gen seeing as we used to have one and it was the last true Caprice, but given the chance I would totally rock one of the new Zeta platform ones, because Holden = awesome forbidden fruit. Anyways, go pick your own style of Chevy Caprice below!

Early 4th gen for epic reliability (ancient everything) and the most mature of the old platform. Late 4th gen for the better looking body of this year range.
