This is the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! just north of San Luis Obispo. It was sparked by a truck dragging chains up Highway 101, in fact starting 3 or more fires from near Buellton all the way up to Cholame on Highway 46 East, a distance of over 100 miles. It’s endangering the great little town of Santa Margarita, just north of the Cuesta Grade off 101. As of this morning it was at around 2000 acres, up from 300 last night. Tankers have been overhead all day, and CalFire crews made inroads last night with a successful back-fire, but it does not appear the wind is in their favor. This plume appeared about an hour ago, and this is the view from the back of my shop. Flames are now visible on the south side of the second ridge north of San Luis Obispo, between the power poles. Not good. Here’s to the safety of anyone in its path, and the skill of those fighting it.
And if you’re towing, for fuck’s sake, mind your trailer. For chains to do this, especially over such a great distance, you have to be completely oblivious. I have a hard time believing nobody tried to flag the guy down, and this started in the evening. Sparks bright enough to jump a generous breakdown lane and start a fire would be visible in the mirrors.

I’ve flagged a couple people towing before for dragging chains...they blow me off with a wave saying “I know.” Then pull over and route them correctly, you idiot!

With all of the fires up here they’ve even told people to mind their chains when towing on the news. Then they told everybody to stay the fuck out of the forests.
