The torque steer is real.

Oops or upgrade?

Im sure the front diff is happy.

TRying to track down a noise, and having the rear driveshaft rebuilt.

it doesn’t seem to mind too much, its the same size diff but a stronger axle than the tacoma so its not complaining too much.

What is this torque steer that you mention?

with 240 lbs-ft at 1000 rpm, it doesn’t take much throttle to make strange things happen.

mmm hmmm.

That’s got to be an unusual sensation in that truck.

yeah, it is. Whats really weird is that is squats hard now in the front when you jam on it.

Huh, that is interesting. I guess without the counteracting torque of the rear end trying to lift the nose it’d do that?

Did this with a Discovery Series II once. Except it was the double cardon joint on the front shaft that failed. Removed the front shaft while waiting for the backordered part for a couple of weeks. With permanent 4WD, the center diff on that was normally open - had to crawl under and manually lock the center diff with a 10mm wrench by feeling around the top of the case. (early DII’s still had the lock, just no way to actuate from inide the vehicle). I remember the thing felt really light in the front, weirdly effortless steering...and it felt faster. Good luck with yours.

I already did this with the front shaft when it was rebuilt last year. Now its the rears turn. Sadly, I don’t think its fixed my vibration issues yet.

What else causes vibration in these things, besides a warped rotor or similar? Does your LC have swivel balls on the front like my Rover or the old Cruisers?

My guesses:
Bad front wheel bearings (I replaced the PS front wheel bearings recently and one of the races was worn...previous shop did wheel bearings less than a year ago). I have all the stuff I need to replace the DS bearing, happening soon.
PS tire now out of round because of bad bearing that allowed play (just had the tires rotated and re balanced this morning, nothing yet)
Front diff not setup properly (possible, again stupid shop that did it is suspect)
Transfer case output bearing going bad (possible, I hear a moderate bearing type whine from time to time in low range)
????
I’ll get the driveshaft put back on tomorrow night and maybe do the hub then too. I think I also need to check my pre-load on the bearing I did replace, I think its too tight.

I did that a couple years ago...big help!

sadly, the vibe is still there, its in the front someplace I think

Damn. Good luck tracking it down.
Mine stopped going backwards. New tranny time!

Ouch, I guess a new or rebuilt cruiser transmission isn’t too expensive....so thats good.
