Looks like the new Forza will be chock full of opportunities for in-app purchases on a paid game. Oppo-pinions?

I hate paid content. Luckily, everyone else does too and it seems to be going the way of the dinosaur with the exception of proper expansion packs like GTA does every once in a while.

Eh they already did this in Horizon 2 with tokens, the boosts don’t bother me really and if you’re a VIP credits are practically handed out to you.

And there goes all hope I had for this. Video games fucking suck I don’t know why I keep playing them.

ooh that is sneaky from Turn 10. For the run up of Forza 6 they said they would do away with Car Tokens and you know what they did but to swap them out for paid cheats is real sneaky.
Still if I’m gonna be honest I have zero problems with time boost micro transactions. If people want to pay money to get shit quicker, power to them.
Also the mod system looks like there is a lot more to it than I thought. I was led to believe it was just custom challenges like having certain races where it was only cockpit with manual & clutch not this “grip expert” stuff.

As long as idiots keep buying things on mobile apps, they’ll be there on proper games. Never underestimate the greed of the games industry.

Ugh... That’s one of the things I like least about BF4 is the Battlepacks. I’m paranoid that Battlefront is going to have the same shit somehow.
Maybe I’ll just buy Fallout 4 and disappear into a remote cabin for a year and pray that the game industry gets less greedy.

I think I may take the money I was squirrelling away for this and throw it at my Overland rig or at my FoST now.....

That we charge more moeny for. Hello $180 per copy of Battlefield 4.....

I bought it on release day and got China Rising for free. Only money I’ve spent on it was 3 Gold Battlepacks when they were discounted. Premium offer some good incentives, but for as much money as the game itself? Hell no.

Micros have been trying to seep their way into AAA. And they’ve been failing, because no one wants to pay more beyond the $60 they’ve already spent. They work on mobile because the game is free-to-play. You can do ‘free-to-play’ with a tiny gaming app, but not a multimillion dollar title that will retail for $60.

“Mod packs can be won as part of the Prize spinner (described above) or purchased for in-game credits.”

Did you read the article? You get the “mod cards” by winning races and opening randomized packs of them. Sure you can buy in-game credits with real money if you want, but as with FM4 and FM5 you can go without buying things. 5 less so, that game was a rushed hack job, designed specifically to be a vessel for paid DLC. FM6 is looking much better in my opinion.

Really? Were you on the fence before because I struggle to believe this is making you rethink your purchase. Firstly shit like this isn’t new to Forza. Micro transactions have been in for years, difference is this time it is for a feature I’m not sure people will care about.
I certainly won’t since I’m gonna start the game with 25 million credits for my “loyalty” and given that I race all assists off in cockpit view I probably won’t bother with the “dares”.
Maybe it will appeal to newcomers to Forza or sims in general but I guess time will tell. Hopefully you can turn them off like in Horizon 2 since my biggest problem with them in Forza is they caused several more steps to buying and modifying cars to what was a one button process.

Must have missed that bit, thanks.

It’s just a value based situation. I am married and almost 30, should I really be playing video games? Or should I be saving that money for Overlanding bits, bobs, trips? What will make my family happy and not just me?

Fair enough. Forza can wait unlike Overland.

Yeah I mean what if I buy it in 2 years time when the next gaming system is released?

I was very against it at first glance but after reading through it some actually sound kind of fun. I won’t buy any but if I get it ona prize spin I’ll give it a try.

I will not stand for these micro-transactions!! My wallet is offended!

They fixed the economy in 5 eventually. I came to it late, and quickly had more credits than I knew what to do with.

I’m really not on board with the performance-altering mods. I realise Forza’s never been the most realistic of racing games, as compared to most of the other ‘hardcore’ driving sims, but that just seems ridiculous. I’m glad you won’t be able to use them in rivals and such, but still...

While I understand in app purchases/paid dlc from a business perspective for these guys, ultimately as a consumer of said gaming products I dislike it very much. Some games aren’t so bad because their purchase content isn’t something that puts you against a wall, meaning you pretty much have to buy it to continue or succed in game. There are some out there that make the purchases almost mandatory though and that drives me crazy. Either way, I don’t ever buy the stuff* and will happily move on from a game if it seems like paid content is the focus.
*I did buy cash cards in GTA Online because someone gave me 2 $20 AmEx gift cards and I had nothing better to use them on and they had been sitting in my wallet for about a year.

I think my main issue with 5 was that it had less overall content than the previous game. Fewer cars, fewer tracks, worse physics (my opinion), and barely improved graphics, but you can add more if you want for $5 microtransactions.
![]() 08/18/2015 at 13:05 |

I preferred the physics, personally, but it was certainly short on content. The interface was pretty crappy, too.

It’s not DLC. The article states that it’s purchased with “in-game credits.” That means it’s the money you earn from winning races, not actually real-world money. Turn 10 would never lower themselves to such a level of offering mod packs as paid DLC. Additional car packs are fine, but paid mod packs? That’s for Call of Doody and Battlefailed.
