Super slow tonight, and a skunk seems to have expired somewhere very near the open windows of my bedroom, so sleep shall not be immediately forthcoming. I challenge you, opponaut, to entertain me with pictures of all your cool shit. Cars, boats, planes, espresso machines, fancy hats, stamp collections, birthmarks that look like celebrities. Impress me.
That’s some of my cool shit up there. Sorry for the crappy photo. I don’t want to go outside to take a better one. There’s a dead skunk out there.

I haven’t even shot it yet, but they don’t feel as slippery as they look. The factory grips were this awful jagged checkered wood, and I haven’t found any replacements I’ve liked yet. This is like the fifth or sixth set I’ve tried. Hopefully they work out.

Yes Saab from when they were still SAAB. It is a pretty funny car to drive.

So cool dude. I have a pretty legit fleet, but other than my ‘70 vw bus, I don’t really have anything weird or quarky, and it bums me out.
![]() 08/18/2015 at 05:41 |
|
The bus can be a fun vehicle, but it’s definitely a very specific one. This SAAB 96 is usually my daily driver, except when its broken or when its too hot out (no AC unfortunately). I feel like a bus would be more trying for everyday use - although that’s not really its fault, more that everybody else drives like maniacs and don’t realize a bus needs space to get moving - and space to get stopping.
![]() 08/18/2015 at 05:46 |
|
I keep it at my place up in Alaska, and it’s pretty perfect for a town with empty roads. I have all kinds of crazy fast sporty stuff, but the bus is by far my favorite to drive even though it can’t touch 50.
![]() 08/18/2015 at 06:07 |
|
I think my favorite driver was a Renault Le Car. Surprisingly it wasn’t the slowest, I had also had a Subaru 360 and a 1st gen Toyota tercel that was the slowest thing on the road - although it got over 40mpg no matter how much I floored it. But it had torsion bar suspension with some ridiculous amount of travel, it was impossible to bottom that car out - you could run over speed bumps at 30mph and it still wouldn’t bottom out. We would squeeze 6 people in it and it would be about 2 or 3 inches off the road - and it still couldn’t be bottomed out over bumps. It also leaned way over on corners and sounded like an antique inboard boat motor. It did of course blow up on the highway finally, but aside from that I think it was the best car I’ve owned.

OK, so technically the Ercoupe and Karmann Ghia aren’t mine, though the fact that they belong to, and are regularly used by, my wife’s 90-something year old grandfather is pretty cool in and of itself. Still, I’ve driven the Ghia plenty of times, and I’m hoping to start flying next summer. The MG and Scirocco are mine, though, and while they’re both a bit rough around the edges, they’re a huge amount of (very slow) fun.
Simply having the hangar in the family is awesome as well; it’s great for car and parts storage. The MG is even low enough that if I unbolt the windscreen, it can just about nestle under the Ercoupe’s wing!

I love it. I’m learning just how well this thing corners and just how nimble it feels! Complete reversal of the Charger! Not a knock against the Charged but just a different, and much more luxurious beast. Things that I’d like to do in the future is get a CAI and a tune for the turbo 4 because apparently since this was the first iteration there is quite a bit to be gained from a tune.
I also am going to try and get a window tinting done this week, debating on whether I want a brow or not.

Super cool. I’ve got grandpa’s old Smith .38 that he carried in WW2, and later as a bail bondsman. It’s pretty cool. All filed down so he could pull it out of his pocket without snagging. But other than that and a super cool 12/20 set of old 870 Wingmasters, my arsenal is pretty modern. I dig the old stuff, it just sketches me out to buy guns used.
![]() 08/18/2015 at 13:06 |

I suggest tinting, I went with 35% all around (minus the windshield) and it looks pretty good. The black roof really makes it look good. I didn’t go with a strip cause I usually just have sunglasses on anyways. Dark enough to look good and provide some privacy, light enough for the cops to leave me alone.

Haha thanks, it’s seriously slow right now is what it is. We’re building it from the ground up. A friend and I got the bone stock donor back in early March and have slowly been working on it. The cage was recently finished and the seats and harnesses just went in this past weekend. Everyone said “buy a race car! do not build your own!” and that’s very good advice. My friend wanted to build one just to have the experience, and the budget requirements and timing worked out for both of us so that’s just how we ended up going down this road. It’s great for him because he’s sort of developing his skill along with the upgrades to the car. For me, I’m absolutely dying to get some real race suspension on this thing so it can carry real speed. The goal, eventually, is to have it compete in endurance races. We’re building it to a class though, a relatively new class called “spec E46.” You can check out the rules on the class website. Very simple and straight forward. It’s sort of the updated interpretation of the wildly popular spec E30 class. Relatively modest build costs, capable chassis and lots of cars in the field.
Your M3 would smoke it (until it gets real suspension), of course, but you’d be surprised how fun it is to learn to drive a lower horsepower car! This one had 220-ish when new, haven’t had ours on a dyno yet to find out what it makes now. Anyway, it’s been a fun project despite getting 50 bruises any time I try to work on it now that the cage is in there =)

Thanks! We love the cars and as far as the Tetris blocks went, they are all individual blocks and can be rearranged and took us a while to finally finish up!

Fix the frame, throw on the snow tires, winter hoonage. After that, bigger engine, a third pedal, maybe an autocross or two just for laughs.

Sweet. I’ve always kind of wanted a modern off-roader, but I would be too nervous about dings and scratches to really use it right, so I always end up with something older.

It's surprisingly easy, there's not a ton to them really. I don't get into winding pickups or anything, but the paintwork and wiring the pots and such is simple enough. Plus, it's nice to have something that nobody else has.

Yah no kidding. Beefier cop suspension or a swaybar would be cool. A Pontiac 400 would also be cool(er than a 350?)

An Olds 455 and a Muncie Rock Crusher would be even better. Again, probably can’t afford it
![]() 08/18/2015 at 23:35 |

We just happened to get the best price possible on the sedan. I was actually in the market for an E36, in the interest of spending as little as possible for a track car, when this fell into my lap at the same price point. Needed some work, obviously, but nothing overly complicated/expensive. Sharing costs has let us accelerate the build beyond my budget, and makes more sense to me than buying a turnkey because I can pay for it a little at a time. They don’t let you put race cars on layaway apparently... (I’m the other owner, btw.)
![]() 08/18/2015 at 23:40 |

Cool stuff man. You should do it up in the same livery as the Top Gear e46 endurance rig.

It’s great. It does one thing very very well and that’s speed. Getting in and out is a hassle in the beginning but you figure out how to thrust yourself in and your in. Pretty comfortable on the highway but the engine is loud. People complained about the radio but I seem to have no problems with. On a track its a weapon, took it to Yas four times and every time is better than the last.

Its an 87 turbo look cabriolet. Its super rare. It was a Porsche dealer’s personal car for a year, then my dad bought it from that guy in 88, then I bought it from him a couple years ago.
