Most tracks aroud my place require helmet and fireproof gloves to be worn during track days... Since I recently bought my unicorn RX7, and borrowing helmets and gloves all the time is annoying, I’ve decided to buy my own set.
So I’m looking for an open face helmet (no full face, too hot here in summer and it’s not required so...), preferably a japanese brand since well, I’m in Japan and set of glove, not too expensive with decent breathing capacities.
What do you guys recommend? any brand or specific model that are good and won’t cost too much?

I won’t be able to help you, but do you need to have stuff that follows FIA regulation or similar?
Also, motorcycles helmet are a nice option. That’s what my father used to wear before the new FFSA rules for rallying started (somewhere around 2005).

Not really... I guess it just needs some kind of basic roadworthyness rating...
But I plan on doing some hillclimb amateur races later on as my car is full “safetied” for it... So I might as well get something SNELL rated from the get go.

This might help.

If you plan on doing amateur races later then I’d make sure they are also ok with open face helemts...

I’ll look for one, the problem I have is that I’m in Japan and finding out about helmet regulations for racing here considering that my Japanese is not fantastic is not exactly easy haha

From what I’ve seen they’re OK... But I have to admit that considering my limited Japanese skills, is not easy for me to find the proper informations on the subject :)

There are Snell-rated open-face helmets, mainly due to rallying, but many race organizations do require full-face helmets. Since helmet prices aren’t exactly skip-coffee-for-a-day-and-check-the-couch-for-spare-change pricing, take some extra time to figure out what the regs are for the hillclimbs. You don’t want to have to do this shopping twice, do you? :)
My preferred race series (Lemons and WRL) both require full-face helmets so that’s all I looked at, but racing a lot in Texas meant heat management was important. I chose a helmet that has a large viewport and run with my visor open when I can, which gets a good amount of airflow. Look for reviews that mention whether a helmet is good for glasses to find ones with large viewports.
Unfortunately the helmet I bought back in 2008 (Bell BR-1) was been redesigned in 2010 to work best with forced-air systems so it isn’t one I’d recommend now unless you feel like making yourself a forced-air system. Commercial systems start at just over $100, but you could make a simple home-brew system: NACA duct to attach to passenger-side window opening, air filter to keep the bugs out, and some tubing.

Thanks for the advise! Yeah, I’ll look around for the regulations... it’s a just a mess to find as there are no real amateur series here...
