Tomorrow is my first day of class at the local college. I’m only taking two classes to get back into the swing of things before returning full time either in the spring or next fall. But anyway, while looking at the map of parking, I noticed this:

Yellow spaces are for students. If you can’t tell, there is one single yellow spot between two green “reserved” (for whom, I don’t know) spots and a few handicap ones. It’s possible that this spot is meant for students who are registering for housing after the semester has started, if that’s even possible, but I’d assume that’s what the green ones cover. My classes are closer to other ones, so it doesn’t benefit me, but... I’m going to drive by after class tomorrow and if this spot really is open for me, I’m going to have to use it on Thursday just for the sake of doing it.

What school is this. Tiny campus!

Georgia Gwinnett College. When I say local, I mean local .

It’s growing like crazy, though. In 2005, when it opened, it had just over 100 students. Now it has 12,000+ and it’s more of an exponential growth, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it breaks 20,000 within the next 5 years. I doubt it will ever become a big, well-known one, but it’s definitely coming along.

That’s bigger than my alma mater, Gonzaga University. It was around 5,000 when I went there and according to wiki they’re around 8,000 now and they’ve been around since 1887.

Gonzaga has 8000 students? I thought it was only 5000. Either way, its still unacceptable that Spokane does not have a real public university and not just some pansy extension campus of WSU.

Oops, my eyes didn’t follow the line straight across. It’s 8,000 total and 5,000 undergrad. I did read that they had a record incoming freshman class but it hasn’t grown that much since I graduated in the 90s. It is very weird that WSU’s main campus is in Pullman and not Spokane but that’s a quirk of the land grant university system. Two religious universities and no 4 year public schools except the extension, that’s not right for the second largest (or third depending on the day) city in the state.
