Mazda USA has been taking its sweet time putting up the configurator for the ND Miata, but now the wait is over! You can now build an ND Miata !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ! Unfortunately I’m a little disappointed in Mazda’s option mix.

The color choices for the ND in the US are particularly limited. Our only options are white, silver, gray, metallic black and metallic red. In other markets, there are also pearl white and metallic blue-gray, neither of which are very exciting either. There was a leaked brochure with more Miata-like blue and yellow colors, but they’re nowhere to be found in any country’s ND configurator. Yet.

There are 3 trims: Sport, Club, and Grand Touring. Each one adds features on top of the lower trim. The Club, for example, adds a stiffer suspension, LSD, nicer stereo, and other trim bits. Grand Touring adds to the Club’s sporty stuff, luxo stuff like leather, fancy headlights, auto climate control, rain-sensing wipers, navigation, and driver aids like blind spot monitoring (having owned an NB Miata myself, this will come in handy with the top up).

There’s one thing that bugs me: there’s a Brembo brake + BBS wheel package, that also includes an aero kit. But this is only available on the mid-level Club trim. You can’t get a Grand Touring with the Brembos. You can add the appearance package part of the Brembo/BBS package to the Grand Touring, but not the big brakes.

The Club with Brembo/BBS package ends up costing more than the Grand Touring, even with the appearance package.

Come on Mazda, would it kill you to offer the Brembos on the GT?
