Unless you’ve been living under a rock the 25 year rule is going to open up some very interesting and very desirable models for import in the coming years. So what cars aren’t people talking about that they should be?

Kei cars, small pickup trucks.

Mazda cosmo - tri rotor cruise missile. Yes the tri rotor only came with an automatic but I feel like the big, heavy cosmo is better suited for weekend cruising rather than track day bombing. It’s on my short list.

Renault Clio Williams. (Maybe, just grabbing for something)

that is under no radar.

Also, since I’m trolling, the Daewoo Tico.

+1 for kei trucks.

You're going to be waiting a couple of years for those to be approved. Looks like 1992 was the first year.

CAPPUCCINO!!!!!1111!!
Oh wait there is no 25-year rule where I live. Carry on.

Ford Escort, maybe?

Not sure what exactly, but it won’t be Japanese.

Especially considering how many 2.5RS STi swaps exist.

I dunno, we did get the Acura TL already.

I know what’s 1st on my list...from Japan. Also a Mistubishi.

Pretty much everything has already been imported that is of performance related interest. The only Japanese cars that really fly under the radar are the super are ones that nobody has the money to import. Eg: Stance Bros.

Pretty sure those started in 1990....

Yep. But the next few years will open up a wider number for importation so I expect a steady uptick in price and desire until 2020. Especially as more and more try to hunt down good, clean FDs. Inevitably, some will stumble onto these and get them instead.

What’s the deal here? Does America not have Impreza STis?
Because if you’re talking about the 22B specifically, good luck. They built just 400 for Japan. By contrast, they built nearly 44,000 GT-Rs.

I have seen one of these once, was blown away. Not sure if it was a tri-rot though.
It was so weird looking at a modern car and not being able to even pick the manufacturer...

We didn’t get the STi. All we got was the 2.5RS.

Oh woah, that’s a shame. Why do you think that is? If I had to guess, I’d say maybe it only came in manual and they couldn’t see Americans buying them.
Unfortunately, nobody got the 22B :P

I don’t know. Subaru’s presence wasn’t what it is now back then. The first WRX we got at all was in 2002, which kind of took everyone by surprise and helped make the company what it is today.

Wow. It’s so interesting how many manufacturers just can’t make an impact in the US, even though they’re plentiful across the rest of the world. I suppose there are so many domestics, there’s only so much room for the rest.
