No, that is not an exaggeration! On Saturday, there was an Autocross Test & Tune at Watkins Glen International in the main paddock lot. We had 15 attendees and the whole day to do as many runs as humanly possible. This event was not ranked, we didn’t have car numbers, and the times were not recorded; it was all just fun! I lost track of the number of runs that I did but we had 3 sessions where I know I got in about 8-10 runs in each. Then on Sunday, the Glen Region had their regular Solo event at the same location and I got in two sessions of 4 runs which is how I got in 40 runs in total! That is a ton of seat time for sure. I may have only done 6 events now, but I definitely got in way more than two event’s worth of driving this weekend. Didn’t manage to snap any pictures but there will be some available on their website soon.

At the end of the first day, we got to do some fun runs also which was cool. I swapped Miatas with one of the fastest guys there. He was driving a stock ‘96 but with much better tires. I instantly cut 1.5 seconds off my fastest time for the day even though the car had noticeably a little less power. The proper tires and ABS definitely allowed me to cut turns even harder. He also did a few runs in my Miata and it was fun to watch him go 2 whole seconds faster than me. Never realized how much body roll there is! Also did some ride alongs in a turboed 3 series and that was fun. Understeer and turbo lag are definitely weird!
And of course, I camped out for the weekend to complete it all. I was over at Watkins Glen State Park and while it was crowded, it was definitely a great park. There I actually got some good pictures. Quite the tourist trap but for good reason!
My phone camera did not do the lighting justice. This was the first area when I entered the trail and it only got better and better as I went along.
Depth was lost here but it was still a great sight to see. Not sure why people were “hiking” this trail with flip flops though!
Water can do some crazy things to rocks over thousands of years!
There is not really a good way to judge scale in this picture but everything was just so massive down in the gorge.
Aside from the lighting making it look like everything is on fire, I really liked how these rocks looked. Places like this kinda make me want to get a real camera and try to learn that a bit. It looked far better in person.
And for dinner on Saturday I managed to perfectly cook a steak over the open fire. I just had the fire roaring and seared both sides and it was thick enough to still be a nice medium in the center. Was a perfect meal to ride out the torrential downpour right afterwards.
Great weekend and totally worth the 6 hour drive up there and 5 hour drive back! Makes for a very tired Monday but it was so so worth it. Spent more on gas driving up there and back than I did on Autocrossing. I am so glad it is that cheap!

I love the Glen. I’m going to be up there this weekend, but not for anything car related.

Its a very nice area! Perfect weather too which was nice. A little bit hot but it was North enough to avoid a bit of the humidity.

I’m coming up from Florida, so I’ll take upstate “hot” any day.

Yup, it's nice to get like 5 autocrosses worth of seat time in two days lol.

Florida, also known as hell on earth. I don’t know how you people survive down there. I have found 18 degrees to be too warm before, I just cant imagine 100+ with humidity every day.

Barely. I avoid the outside like the plague for about 9 months of the year. Today it’s supposed to hit 95, and humidity is at 90%. Yay.

I feel like people must legitimately die there if the AC were to stop working one day. I suppose you can somehow get used to it but I love the outdoors too much to be stuck indoors.

You may be joking, but it happens. If there’s a heat wave, the power grid can get overtaxed, ACs break, and we get blackouts. People do die of heat stroke as a result. It was a really bad issue about ten years ago when Hurricane Charley hit and left some areas without power for weeks.

Yeah that is just crazy. Sure I enjoy having AC in NJ but I certainly could survive without it at least. I do find it funny though my relatives from Florida think that anything below 60 is absolutely frigid and will be in winter coats haha. That’s still shorts and t-shirt weather!
