Haha. I want to bring Chartlie out in hopes of getting a “Please leave now. We’re afraid our cars might catch comething” note.

How many people can say they got an award at Pebble Beach for their car? I bet there are some interesting ones out there in the lots.

Awarded to an immaculate 1990 Madonna - no wait it’s a 1955 Buick.

It’s an old MR2 that is my track rat. Beat to hell on the outside, but it’s what’s under the skin that matters. Pretty much everything between the chassis and ground has been replaced and upgraded with the last original bit being the engine, which is going to be replaced in a few days since I blew it on track a few weeks ago.

Did you do the build yourself?
![]() 08/17/2015 at 13:01 |

Sadly, no. At first when I was looking for a classic car (about 3 years ago) I wanted to do a full restoration, but realized that I had no expertise and trying to work on a total rust bucket would be frustrating. So I bought one that was pretty well sorted, but needed little touches of work here and there.

Love it! I wish I had a track car- as you might imagine, the Buick is nowhere close to one of those...

It reeeeallly depends. For example, a 1955 Chevy Bel Air in similar condition might cost nearly a hundred grand, despite being lower on the trim-level ladder than the Buick. This is because everybody recognizes it instantly and knows what it is. A 1955 Cadillac will probably be about $100k too, because of Elvis and recognition. The Buick, even though it looks similar to and has similar components as the cadillac cost nowhere near a hundred grand, simply because it’s a Buick and not a cadillac or a tri-five Chevy. It was a lot closer to what a similar Pontiac or Oldsmobile would go for, which is somewhere in the 20-30k range. With these cars, it's really about recognition, and a Buick or Olds just isn't as well known as a similar Chevy or Cadillac, hence the huge price difference.
