My car has been doing something kind of weird. Sometimes, when I start it and shut it off again quickly (to move it in the driveway or from the back parking lot at work to the front parking lot), when I go to start it again, it doesn’t want to. It sputters and cranks longer, almost as if it is flooding itself. No check engine light, no drop in gas mileage, no weird smells or sounds, nothing out of the ordinary besides that. It’s only occasionally - not every time. It will always start, it just acts like it would rather not. Thoughts?
It’s a 2008 Mazda3 2.3 auto with just under 75,000 miles. I replaced the spark plugs at about 71,000 miles. From what I’ve read, the fuel filter is not serviceable, but I have friends telling me I need to change it. Further research is needed.

Yeah probably flooding. We have a flooding problem at the moment and it's sensor related.

Sounds like the fuel is not staying in the line. Try letting it sit with the ignition to on before cranking and see if letting the fuel pump spool up first helps.

I’ll bet this happens more when the car has been sitting still for a good while before it gets the quick move, am I correct?

It has usually been sitting for about an hour before it gets the quick move. What happens is I get to work, park in the awful back parking lot, and then realize one of the supervisors is gone and I can go have their reserved spot.

I have an 07 2.0 with a similar issue, only happens about once or twice a month though when the car has been parked for 30 min- 2 hours. Giving it a little bit of gas helps it start right up. I too suspected the fuel filter but couldn’t find an easy way to change it.
