I’m looking to drive to pebble beach to meet Jalopnik writers/enjoy awesome cars (I live 100 ish miles away). What are some tips for long distance driving? I plan to drive there alone and back, fueling myself with podcasts, energy drinks, the occasional nap at the gas station and constant stream of veggies...

100 miles is nothing, especially if it’s mostly freeways. Just make sure to pick out good music, and stop at Quiktrip to fill up so you can grab a 32oz drink for $0.79. (or less, depending on where you live) Maybe it’s just me, but a good sip of Mountain Dew somehow cures boredom.

Bring music, music will save just about any drive, iPods, CDs, etc. Other than that, make sure the vehicle is prepared for the trip: fluids, tires, etc.

Oh, and a GPS in case you get lost/need directions.

Hit the gas station prior to leaving, fill up on shitty gas station food, energy drink of your choice. Put on some tunes and cruise control for the 1.5-2 hour drive.

If it’s only 100 miles you shouldn’t need to sweat napping at gas stations and such. That’s less than a tank of gas round trip and even at 35 mph that’s only a three hour drive each way, and I’m sure you’ll be going faster than that. Just stay alert and enjoy the drive.

100 miles is more like a sprint these days.

Would be about an hour and 15 minute trip for me nothing a couple of NOS Energy drinks and a good CD couldn’t handle.

I haven't had issues. Just a little FYI the tiny circles are a bitch to remove.

Where the hell do you live within 100 miles of there that 100 miles seems like a road trip?! It was a solid 150+ before we even contemplated hotel rooms when I lived down there. People in the Central Valley drive long distances constantly. Sacramento is similar. I am so confused.

1) Fill tank.

2) Point car toward destination.

3) Use cruise control while driving.

4) Look around a bit, because there are probably things to see depending on your route.

5) Arrive at your destination.

I’d probably just skip the circles if I did that. I like the classic Toyota livery more now that I've seen it on a car.
