What’s the tightest you’ve ever fit a car in a garage?
No exact measurements, but I think there was about 5 inches between the rear bumper and garage door, and about 2 inches between the front bumper and the saw. The Chally is 197.7 inches long.

When I had my mazda tribute we had an apartment parking garage that left about 2 inches for the mirrors on either side. I’d scare my friends by going in at about 15 mph because I was a dumb high schooler.

Wasn’t me, but at my vacation house a neighbor managed to fit a B8 A4 into a spot barely bigger than the car. About an inch on each side of the mirrors He’s got foam pads on the walls so he can get out without bashing the door up.

Bought my TL, drove it home, figured out it doesn’t fit in my garage if I pull it in; backed it in and I have about 3 inches on space in the front and back.

Ha. I’m sure not many people do this, but always make sure that your new car fits in the garage/intended parking area, before purchase.

why do builders think it’s ok to only leave 8” between the edge of the garage door and the wall?

I’ve got a few entries for this:
1) Technically not a “garage,” But fitting a long, wide, tall desert truck in a trailer normally occupied by a rally car. Because it was so long I had to squeeze between the tool box and the spare trailer tire (the rally car would fit without reaching the tool box). One inch to the box, two to the tire. Zero visibility of either from the driver’s seat of the truck. Oh, and 1.5 inches of clearance from the top of the truck to the fluorescent lights on the ceiling.
2) (No pictures), parking said trailer (29 feet, 7.3 inches) and the tow rig (20 feet, 1.6 inches) in a 50 foot long storage bay.
3) Fitting the desert truck and the old Outback in 35 feet.

By my calculations, you had just 3.1 inches of space on the second one.

I do this pretty often at work. Sometime we’ll have one car in the shop and then need to nose in another for a couple minutes that turns into an overnighter and it goes in because if we leave it out someone might try taking it out. Last time it happened was with a massively overheating one-ton dump truck with a Slobalt in front of it, but we’ve also had two three-quarter-tons in there. The shop itself isn’t all that small, but we end up with some pretty tight clearances unless we move the first car forwards, which we’re usually too lazy to do.

This has happened on multiple occasions. Hail is fun. Not pictured is the Escalade and Ford Festiva I shoved in later.

The saw is hilarious.
Part of the reason I bought the G37 is because I can still get to my workbench with the car in the garage. To do serious work I have to back it out, but just to grab tools I have some space.
